- Worzel check-up
Hi everyone,
Worzel’s HCT was 64 this afternoon, although I’m reluctant to say his blood test was great as something always happens when I tempt fate! I hope this gives everyone some encouragement – our dogs & cats can recover from being seriously ill & be in remission from this horrible disease. I wish I could package some of his red cells to send to those in need of some – if only that were possible.
Love to all & hoping for improved results for everybody – sending cuddles for all the dogs & cats,
Sheena, Worzel (threw up in the car just as we arrived at the vets) & Ollie xxxx
Sheena,
This is such great news! Those Greyhounds with their super high hematocrits! They are like another species altogether. I hope you have a big party tonight!
Does he like going to the vets to do the test? I’m wondering, do they collect from a leg? For donor Greyhounds they must have some routine location to collect from so they can rest during the process.

Yaay!!! Really pleased. Sending Big hugs to Worzel – and of course Ollie too

Sheena and Worzel!!
That’s awesome to hear!! And an inspiration for sure!! Congrats congrats — you should have a party to celebrate!
Love to you all! Xoxo hope and the boys
Thank you to everyone – he sends big scratchies & kisses to all! And a very special kissie for Sadie baby whom he adores.
Patrice – he hates going – he gets in a real state & was sick in the car as usual. We always take a neck sample as the Specialist wanted it to always be done this way – less chance of error in his opinion & I agree entirely. They also run the test while I wait for the results (only 5 minutes or so), which is lovely. Any problems, we can repeat straight away unless they are very busy. Everyone pops their head round the door to see him too – he is unique with this disease at our vets, so they are all interested. Plus because he is such a gentle sweet boy, they all want a cuddle!
We always discuss stopping the once a week 50mg azathioprine and I always say no. You all know I have no real logic in this, but I just think of it as an insurance policy. We always get his kidney & pancreatic function checked because of the aza. The Specialist is quite happy with this continuing dose & admits none of us really know what is the “best” thing to do – maybe he just wants to keep me quiet!
Love to all – keep it going, all of you

Fantastic news! That’s my boy! (Ok, that’s your boy, but I can feel proud from afar!). I’m so pleased to hear this and it Worzel is such a wonderful example of how this disease can be turned around with the right treatment.
Give the boy a big cuddle from me and Mabes. Great stuff!
