I noticed yesterday a couple of sort of joined pimples on the inside of Bingo’s ear flap. I’m sure they’ve just popped up. Today, he’s got another one nearby. There is no puss or blood. It sort of looks like a clogged hair follicle. It doesn’t seem to bother him at all in that he’s not scratching at it or anything.
I’ll probably go to the local vets tomorrow – it’s worrying me, but does that sound like a possible staph infection?
I’m sure it’s been mentioned by others in the past. How is it usually treated?
Vally & pimples.
Dear Pimple’s Mum
Better safe than sorry & get them checked out. Is it possible it’s just a tiny bit of Calcinosis Cutis? Are they hard or soft? I would of thought you’d see a pustule with staph & it would be itchy or sore, red & inflamed too. I found some spotty, tiny growth like things on Worzel & I think the vet is right – it’s still little bits of calcium coming out of this system from the prednisone treatment, even though he doesn’t take it any more. They tend to drop off or disappear on their own after a while.
If you have any antibiotic ointment hanging around, you could put it on just in case, but check it’s OK for ears. Or try some chlorhexidine BUT you mustn’t get it anywhere near the ear canal or in eyes/nose. The only thing is that both of these ideas might ruin the vet’s chances of diagnosing, so maybe it’s better to wait until tomorrow. I bet it’s really putting him off his food (not)!
