- Sadie update – doing well :)
Hi all. Sadie’s PCV on Friday was 50. Yippee!! I also got the results from her CBC which was done on 05/20/14. Her vet was happy with all the blood work, especially considering how long Sadie has been on the prednisone and cyclosporine.
ALK Phosphatase was 504 (high), but considering the long term prednisone, she was not too concerned.
AST was 13 (low), but vet not too concerned, due to above.
Cholesterol was 347 (high) but that actually came down from 11/13, 406 – so good.
CPK was 47 (low) but not that low, and again, vet not too concerned, due to above, again.
Other than that, all was within normal range, thank goodness. It is actually one of the best CBC’s she’s had in a year. So, Friday, after over a month on this dose, we decided to lower her prednisone from 6mg daily (5mg in AM, 1mg in PM) to 5mg daily (5mg in AM only). She will remain on the 10mg Atopica every five (5) days. I know this is not much of a reduction on the prednisone, but with lowering the Atopica to such a low dose, I am taking this VERY, VERY, VERY SLOW on the prednisone.
She is still hefty, 38.9 pounds. We are continuing to work on this, but my goodness, she is STILL ravenous!! All and all though, she’s doing very well and I am hugely happy!!! :)
Love and hugs,
Linda and hefty, pretty darn healthy, sassy Sadie
Hi Linda
Wow! What fantastic news – I am over the moon for you & your darling girl. Maybe Chubby Ollie & Miss Voluptuous should get together??? Really pleased she is feeling good – it means so much to us to see them happy & bounding around after what they’ve been through. I hope we will be able to see her in her glasses very soon – way to go Sadie Baby! Give her a special hug from Auntie Sheena, pleeeaaaze.
Loads of love from me & the boys xxxxx
Hi Sheena. Thanks so much! I am really happy because I worried that I shouldn’t leave her. Actually, she excelled while I was gone. Gee. Ha. ;)
I think she gets lonely here with ONLY me here all the time. We get out, but I think being with her buddy, Buster, really did her good. She loves the two girls there too – they give her quite a bit of love and hugs! She especially loved your hug, Sheena (I told her, this one’s from your Auntie Sheena)!
Yes indeed, Ollie and Sadie need to ‘hang out’ – is Ollie on a diet? Although, he does not look chubby. He’s a cutie too, as is Romeo Worzel.
Love and hugs back at you all – you, Phil, Worzel and Ollie – Linda and Sadie
Hi Linda
Brilliant news about Sadie’s superb PCV! Way to go Sadie! Another sigh of relief eh? When will you start the reduction? I totally understand your decision to go slow, especially as you say with her low dose of Atopica.
I hope she gets a bully stick as a treat for being such a clever girl. And can’t wait to see her in her specs!
Mary and Mable x
Linda, what awesome news. Sadie girl you clever thing! Mum thinks she’s done all the hard work, but we all know it was really you :)
I love a romance and Chubby Ollie & Miss Voluptuous has a real ring to it. Yes let’s see those glasses. She’s such a star, she’ll need them so as to avoid being hassled for autographs.
The reduction is is less than 20%, so it’s a good safe reduction and with lots of time, so you won’t have to worry while you’re away. You know she’ll have a good time with Buster.
Lots of love Vally & Bingo.
Linda that is FANTASTIC news! I’m so pleased for you and Sadie! Well done to both of you!!! Keep it up Sadie! Xxxxxxxx
Thanks Mary. I started the reduction Friday, May 30th. Yes, just to ere on the safe side with the low Atopica. So far, so good. :)
Vally, she’ll actually be with her FIVE greyhound friends down the street when we’re in Europe. Buster, as it turns out, will not be there. Long story, but it’s about safety. Greyhounds have a tendency to get a little ‘testy’ in groups. Sadie knows to get out of their way (after all, she THINKS she’s one of them!). It was decided that one non-greyhound was enough. I don’t like that Buster will go to another place, but it’s where I found him originally and the folks there know him, so he will get all kinds of special attention. Trust me, I have told Buster’s fur parents, that they can not make arrangements to be out of the country going forward without checking Linda and Sadie’s calendar! I mean, really! :)
Thanks Ruth. Indeed, Sadie keeps me on the straight and narrow. She has trained me well. :)
Love to all, Linda and Sadie
Hi Linda,
great news! It always makes me so happy when dogs recover and are doing great. i think the ravenous is not a side effect of the prednisone anymore but just who Sadie is, she is a Spaniel after all:) keep doing what you are doing, it clearly works.
Best wishes,
Brigitte & the poodle boys
