- Megan – Please see
Hi Megan. Family back to their prespective homes and have the computer room back. I was researching vets in TX and found this:
http://www.cpvh.com/2011/07/24/autoimmune-hemolytic-anemia-aiha/
It is the website of Paws and Claws in Pearland, TX. I know, I know – it’s at least 3 1/2 hours away, BUT, maybe you could call them and ask if they know anyone (besides who you’re going to presently) that can work with you and Sophie? Their contact information is:
Paws and Claws:
2556 Broadway Street Pearland, TX 77581 (281) 997-1426
Will text in a bit to be sure you see this post. It’s worth a call?
Love and hugs, Linda
Megan,
My dog, Dunes, lived with the disease six years. She was never completely off meds. After five tears on meds she had some major issues but even the sixth year was decent and we had many good months.
Her HCT was 7 when I took her to the emergency specal hospital. She jumped in and out of my Jeep. The doctor was amazed. She had three t ransfusions the first two weeks. Tshe had two half and one whole transfusions at the end of 2012. She was put to sleep on October227, 2013. And she got ill the first week of June 2007.
She was a fighter and she lived for six years. I NEVER GAVE UP!! SHE NEVER GAVE UP! She had failing kidneys at the end and pneumonia. But she. Fought for me. The vet said she lived for me. OSU in Columbus wanted to euthanize her a year ago and she fought and had many good months. So fight and Sophie will fight for you.
You will know. There were times I made the decisions because the bet did not know and OSU tried to talk me in to eblnding it.
I miss her desparately and always will. I still cry but she was with me six years. I am just saying that there is hope even things are bleak.
Joe thank you for sharing your story with me, I feel much more hopeful to know that Sophie isn’t alone in this taking so long. If you don’t mind me asking, but how long did it take for Dunes’ PCV to go up? Linda and Sheena, thank you both so much for keeping up with me, I’m sorry I’m just getting back in to town from the holidays and saw this. She’s still not eating much, a little, but then I syringe baby food in her after she eats a little reg food. Linda I will for sure be calling them, thank you! I called 2 of the vets and was able to speak to one and the other was supposed to call me back but I’m sure they were busy due to the holidays. The one vet I spoke to said he knew Sophie’s current vet and she is one of the best in town but likes to do things her way, he said I shouldn’t leave but try talking to her again. He said she was really good and felt Sophie should stay there. I’m going to continue to call around though. Thanks again for all the help. I hope y’all had an amazing Thanksgiving!
From my recollection it took two to four months for her to get to high 20s. In the last year she adapted to 21-24 but made it to 37 about two months before she got sick and that was with three fourths of her marrow gone. She was a fighter. Never give up. I miss her but had her for six years. God bless. Ask anything any time.
Forgot to say that Dunes stayed between high 30s and mid 40s for 5 years. She was on 5 ml Prednisone, 100 mg Atopica and Immuran. It did after that many years hurt her none marrow but it was 5 years bedore any decline. Six years is long nut not nearly enough. I do love my new poor sick Rescue but there will NEVER be another Dunes.
