- Heartworm preventative for AIHA dogs?
Of course, Sadie is off all flea/tick meds. That’s a given. But, I have asked this before and wish so that I could refer back to VetNet (stinks),…..so, I’m asking again (sorry to be redundant…). What heart worm med is your pup on? I stopped giving Sadie anything (for the last two months), because she was throwing up the next morning. Not much, and mostly bile, but still it concerned me with the relapse in June. Being in Florida I am concerned about mosquitos – it’s comes with the territory here – no way out. Any suggestions?
Yes I’m missing the old forum archives – We’ll make our own!!!
Heartworm is a worry. Bingo doesn’t get anything but it’s not actually common HERE despite what the pharmaceutical companies tell us. But every summer whenever there are mozzies about, I do worry.
Sorry no help from me. I remember Lynn mentioning the name of the one that had been okayed.
Regards, Vally & Bingo
When Tilly relapsed in Dec 2012 it was 2 weeks after I gave her her first dose of Trifexis after switching from Heartguard and Advantage. My other dog was not effected by this and the vet tech said she would report this to the drugmaker even though they hadn’t established a link between Trifexis and AIHA. Tilly now takes Revolution once a month and so far so good.
I worry about over medicating, under medicating, drug-drug interactions, and practilly Tilly’s every move so at the end of the day knowing she has some heart worm, flea and tick preventive calms my nerves about that aspect of health care.
Erica – the holistic vet I went to said DO NOT USE TRIFEXIS. She said many pets have been sick. It scared me because Sadie was on it and my daughter’s dog (Sadie’s sister), Sophie is on it too. I wonder if that was it with Tilly. Is there a way to contact the company directly, NOT through the vet?
Hugs, Linda
