Since Cassie’s knee surgery she has to be walked very carefully and slowly. She has a special harness called “Help Me Up” that allows us to control the weight she puts on her back legs.
It’s been two weeks since the surgery and she has been approved for a bit longer walks with less restrictions on the weight bearing.
Friday morning I took her out the back door for the first time so I could see how she would do with the steps. Willie was bouncing around us, thinking he was going to go for a walk with us! I finally managed to squeeze out the back door without him and started on our careful, slow walk. Willie had gone out the doggie door and I could hear him in the yard, whimpering.
We were about 2 min out and suddenly Willie appears, sans collar, all happy to see us! That bongo boy had jumped over the fence to come with us! Well, it was too late to get mad at him, so I just created a new choke collar out of the end of Cassie’s leash and made him walk side by side with Cassie, realllly slow. That was a challenge for him!
Got them both home ok.
Ohhh that’s so cute. Sound’s like the surgery has gone really well. Are you nervous when walking Cassie?
Bingo had a luxating patella fixed years ago. I couldn’t help watching every step he took. I nearly went mad. All of a sudden, I see the knee flipping out again as he walked. The pin inserted to hold it all together had come out!!! Surgery had to be re-done – 2 pins this time. I don’t think I ever got over that. Whenever we went to the vet after that, you’d almost see me whimpering under the chair right reside Bingo.
So glad Cassie’s doing well. It’s so hard when you have other dogs too and you have to “divide” the attention – they just don’t understand. And Willie let you know. Smart boy. He missed his Cassie (and you, most likely). They are absolutely beautiful dogs. I have never seen one “in person” but will be on the look out. Do YOU groom them? I love the “curly” look too.
Vally – I can just see all that with Bingo. Oh my goodness – I would have freaked!
Hugs, Linda (and her “little” black doggie)
