- Bingo protein in urine
Hey all. Bingo goes to the vets in an hour. He’s really not happy as I have forgotten to feed him!!! Well I want an accurate blood test.
I bought some human urine test strips and checked Bingo’s urine which has come up positive for protein.
I’ll let you know after the vet’s visit what comes up.
Cross your fingers for me.
Love Vally and the dud.
Hi Vally, paws, fingers and appendages crossed here. This is what I’ve been dealing with Ashki, proteinuria. In order to get an accurate picture, they should do an urinary protein/creatinine ratio (UPC) if the urinalysis shows elevated protein. That ratio should be < 0.5; I believe borderline proteinuria is between 0.5 and 1.0. Ashki’s was 20 (eek!), but is now down to 3.2 last we checked. The recommendation for proteinuria is a lower protein diet, 1 gram/pound of body weight, fish oil (and vitamin E), and an ACE (which is a blood pressure medication). I can’t remember if Bingo is on aza, or only pred? I’m thinking only pred. At any rate, an ACE can interact with aza.
Thinking of you both and hoping for the best, if you want some websites let me know.

ps I’m really glad they’re testing his blood pressure. If they put him on an ACE make sure they check it again after a bit. Ashki’s former specialist did not think it was necessary. When we went to the new specialist, she did and we discovered that Ashki was overmedicated. Have I mentioned how happy I am we changed specialists?

Bingo’s home again. They did full blood works again, plus urinalysis in house and sent out for Urine Creatinine, Protein and Protein Creatinine ratio. As all the tests came back without too many flags, he decided not to do the ultrasound. Blood pressure was checked again and it was all good. He said he had a good feel of him and he’s happy to leave things for now. I was okay with that when I saw the results.
The Protein Creatinine Ratio was 1.6 and whilst that is a little high, he feels it may be the cortisone forcing out some protein.
Glass of wine time.

Oh Vally – I know this scared you! I’m glad to read he’s home and they think he’s actually okay. Poor little Bingo. I hope he ate and us happy to be home with his mommy.
I have not been on the forum. Met head on with a sidewalk in Baltimore. Huge gash to head (slight concussion) and broke left littke finger. The pain did not compare to the embarrassment!! But hard to type – darn little pinky – had no idea how useful it is (was). So, it takes me forever to type and yep, the typos will be even worse! ;)
When Sadie has her PCV done, they do a total protein. Is that the same? Hers had run high, although lately with weaning, lower. But it had been as high as 8.4. Vet said it was the prednisone…..
Sending huge, enormous hugs me and sloppy kisses from Sadie to Bingo,
Klutz Linda and Sassy Sadie
Oh Vally, that boy of yours – I am so sorry you’ve had all this stress again. I am relieved to hear nothing was worrying the vets overly – and yes that pred does do this to them. But he has to have it, so it’s a fine balancing act. Tamara is a real expert on this subject now & I can’t add anything to her perfect explanation.
