Hi Alyssa
Great to hear about Sassy’s reduction. I’m sure it is a relief to know that your vet is happy to go a bit slower. I know you are worried about the little drop in PCV, but you know Sassy well and I have no doubt you would pick up on it if it was a problem.
I’m really sorry to hear about your night out. People can be so vile sometimes, and this sort of thing makes you feel violated and angry. Completely understand needing to vent. Let’s hope they’ll soon be caught.
All best wishes,
Mary and Mable x
Hi Wendy
I’m just trying to catch up with what has been happening with Frank. I’m so sorry you are facing this nightmare. My cat Molly had a rare form of IMHA in her bone marrow. It’s a terrible shock and very frightening, and we all understand that. Of course, the financial side of things can be crippling too, and having them hospitalised is expensive, although sometimes vital. Is Frank now home with you? Molly was in for 2 weeks, and I hated leaving her, although was able to visit daily (except once, during transfusion).
Sheena is right that we often come across vets who think we don’t know what we are talking about. I completely understand that. I think vets are right in that you need to be careful what you read online, but having known these good people for quite some time, I have absolute faith that they know what they are talking about.
As has already been said, I’m a little concerned that Frank is only on prednisolone. This is a necessary drug to be sure, but often it just isn’t enough on its own to overpower the immune response. Cyclosporine is usually the other immunosuppressant of choice (used alongside, not instead of pred), alongside anti-clotting, stomach & liver protection, PetTinic and sometimes Thyroxine. Way to go on the sucralfate, by the way!
I see you’ve just heard back from Dr Dodds. This is a fairly standard response to a first contact (I think), but my understanding is that now you have paid your fee, you can contact her again and as needed for further advice. I believe she will also liaise directly with your vet if you and your vet consent for that to happen.
Well done you for persevering and checking out all your options. It is no mean feat! We are keeping fingers, toes and paws crossed over here that Frank is going to beat this.
Lots of love

Hey Linda and Sadie
Well done little Sadie for holding that PCV! Clever girl. I’m sorry you are having trouble with the protocol brigade. I remember it well, and we come across it so much don’t we?
I’m so happy she is home with you and hanging in, but so sorry you’ve had this terrible fright. Keep on fighting the good fight, Linda and Sadie.
All our love,
Mary and Mable x
Dear Suba
I am so, so sorry to read about Poppy. This is such a huge shock for you and I know you must be feeling terribly sad right now. Your photos and tribute to her on Facebook are beautiful, and it was clear that she lived a very happy life with you.
Sending lots of love and my deepest condolences to you and Vikram.

Hi Linda
Good news for sure – well done, Sadie Girl! I am so happy she’s stable. Phew – you must be relieved. As we always say on here, those drugs don’t work overnight, which is very annoying as patience is hard to find at these times! I think keeping her a bit quieter might be a great idea too – some dogs love their crates, so she’ll be nice & comfy in there.
We’ve all been thinking about you constantly. I have no doubt that you will stand your ground with the vets – you always have fought like crazy for her – & Sadie will soon be on the up & up with her PCV.
Sending all our love, doggie kisses & huge hugs

Hi everyone & Wendy & Frank
I just want to tell you all how incredibly strong & open-minded Wendy has been, despite the vets being “unco-operative” shall we say. How many of us have had this problem? Many – & it’s so frustrating – it makes me really angry! Wendy has stood her ground & is a great advocate for Frank. Yesterday, we spoke via e-mail a lot as Dr Dodds is not available on the Sabbath – I sent Wendy Dr Dodds protocol (we have her permission to do that) after looking at the blood tests etc Wendy kindly sent us. The pred is not controlling this disease on it’s own at the moment. But her vets were not willing to take that protocol on board & start treatment with a second longer term immunosuppressant, plus the other things she recommends, just yet. I can “understand” if the vets think I don’t know what I’m talking about – we get that a lot, don’t we ladies? But I cannot understand why they doubt Dr Dodds. Let’s hope tomorrow will be a more positive day for Wendy when she goes back – hopefully she will have heard from Dr Dodds too.
The really good news is that Frank is still producing reticulocytes (baby red cells) at a rate that is classed as mildly regenerative – but we would all like to see that figure rise to highly regenerative. His platelets have also come up ino normal levels on the test yesterday – I am so happy to see that too. Frank’s PCV is still low though – 14 is borderline transfusion level – please all cross fingers that he doesn’t need a further transfusion – it is expensive as well.
Sorry to talk about you as a third party, Wendy, but you deserve some recognition for your hard work & determination. Sending you loads of love & hugs – thanks for having faith in our advice – we will all do our best to get you through this. Please keep us posted on how Frank is doing & remember if you are worried, post on here whenever you like.
Good luck tomorrow – I know you will do your best for Frank – stay strong

Oh Alyssa – that’s terrible – there are some really horrible people out there & I’m so sorry you’ve fallen victim to this. I truly hope they get their come-uppence & the police get them. It’s very “personal” & hurtful, plus all the inconvenience of sorting out banks etc.
Have a nice, big doggy cuddle with your girl Sassy – that always does the trick for me!
Love Sheena x
