Oh Tamara – I am soooo sorry to hear this. You fought so hard and loved Ashki so much. This is such a terrible terrible disease. No matter how hard we fight, with everything we’ve got, it wins way too many times, and takes our beloved furry friends. My heart goes out to you, Tamara; I know too well the pain you will be in right now. Ashki will be waiting for you at the Bridge – remember that. And I know he will remain in your heart forever, in those memories of breezes and sunsets.
with love

Tamara, my dear friend, my heart goes out to you. There is no-one like you in the entire world – you gave everything you had to get Ashki better & he had a great amount of quality time because of your guts & determination. He put up one huge fight against this evil disease. I cannot put into words how sorry & sad I am. I know you have a broken heart in which Ashki will always have a place.
Love, hugs & deepest sympathy

I won’t repeat Vally’s wonderful & very good advice, plus what we’ve sent via e-mail, but I hope you now have the all info you need to ask your vet the important questions – looking forward to hearing from you very soon – good luck with the next blood test. You can post all your results etc for us here which means we can advise you on what’s happening:

It’s great to hear Bird is eating better – it’s so important that they are happy in themselves. She sounds like a real sweetie too.

Pam,
I know of one female Standard Poodle, Mercedes, that was diagnosed with AIHA and Dr. Dodds suspected it was when she came into estrus. Consequently as soon a s she was better she was spayed. As Vally said, middle aged spayed females are over represented. However her AIHA dog is male, so was Patrice’s, Shauna’s and mine. Only Linda has a (I believe spayed) female, so go figure. I think there is more to it than the dog going into estrus, maybe something to do with the thyroid? My advice, don’t over think it. There is nothing you can do right now, she is in heat and you have to wait it out. Maybe it would be worth consulting Dr. Dodds if it would be a good idea to have Ella spayed? I know of one dog that had multiple relapses after stressful situations. She was given a small dose of prednisone when ever there was high stress involved, probably about 3-4 times a year. Aparently after this treatment the dog never had a relapse. Now I am not advocating this, saying it is a good idea or you should do this. Just something I heard and maybe it would be worth posting the question to Dr. Dodds. I don’t know if anybody else has heard of this being done. I know if there is any scientific testing behind this treatment, it was done under the care of a holistic vet.
Best wishes,
Brigitte
