Thank you all for the advice. I did check with Costco and there prices are much better than the clinic. We live in Oregon, and we have found the Atopica for $66 per week with free shipping. The supplier was recommended to us by our veterinarian. We have also had a really great experience with a compounding pharmacy that has made the Mycophenolate in the exact dosage for his weight in a single capsule form. Ty has another test today. Fingers are crossed, although I did see him run to the chicken coop yesterday, I haven’t seen that in months so I know he is feeling better.

OOOOHHHH – running to see the chickens? Sounding like Ty is more energetic. Hoping for good news on the test.

Hi Everyone! We got some good news yesterday. Ty’s blood reached 31, we will be tapering off the Prednisone dosage from 40 mg per day to 30 mg per day. He sure looks perkier, we’re hoping the count will stay up, retest on Friday.

Please don’t taper yet – it’s way too early as Ty hasn’t even got into normal PCV yet. He is way too low just now & should be in normal range & stable for at least 3-4 weeks before you reduce – this is of vital impotance to prevent the dreaded relapse.
I beg you to follow & trust the following guidelines to avoid a relapse. Relapses often mean you have to start the treatment all over again & that would be such a waste. We have seen this scenario too often & I am actually begging you NOT TO DO THIS. Please follow the rules here – it will mean a safer & cautious pred reduction leading into remission, not relapse:

Sorry to be blunt, but you are asking for trouble if you don’t follow these guidelines.
Did I mention relapse enough? We HATE that word on here.
On the positive side, I hope he’s still bothering the chickens!

JoAnne, as the owner of a relapsee, just wait a bit longer. Ty is nearly there and if he’s feeling okay enough to hassle the chickens, it won’t hurt him to stay a bit longer. Truly, there’s nothing worse than having to go back up in drugs and the worry that they’ve suddenly dropped in red blood production again. It’s terrifying.
Please wait a big longer. 40mg to 30mg is a good safe reduction, but not yet. Wait until Ty is over the 35 mark for at least a few weeks.

Thank you for the advice everyone! I’ll contact our vet and see what they think. I’ll be sending over this info to them in hope I can get them on board. I’ll let you know what happens.

Hi Joanne .I hope your vet will agree, it is much safer to do the reductions slowly, you could say you prefer to do it slower and tell them why? It would be such a shame to see Ty go back to the beginning all over again, the ladys on this site know what they are talking about and I hope you take there advice. Please let us know how you got on at your appointment at the vets with him, He is such a lovely boy, I hope he continues to improve, much love Jill & Snoopy xxxx ps we are currently doing the SLOW reductions at the moment with Snoopy and it is working well, Snoopys pcv is now, 57.7! xxx
