- Traveling with IMHA
Hi Linda, Pip, hubby and others dogs
I’m so sorry you’re going through this right now and yes it’s terrifying.
As Pip is on high immune suppressing drugs right now, yes, she could catch anything and would have a much harder chance of fighting it, but this is due to the drugs, not the disease. Once the prednisone can be safely lowered, then both she and other dogs can certainly go out again. Some dogs remain on a low dose of prednisone to prevent a relapse, maybe a small dose every second or third day, but this is not the high dosage Pip would be on right now to stop the disease.
If you’re talking about travelling, it’s always worth an extra thought, even when well because you know their immune system has already gone into overdrive for whatever reason. Do you know what may have triggered Pip’s disease? Sometimes we have an idea, other times we never know. One of our ladies always went prepared with drugs in case of being away and the dog suddenly becoming sick. This disease makes us all very paranoid.
Ask anything, my best,
Vally
