Forgive my brevity again. At vet hospital w/Suuny who is not responding well to the transfusion. She is breathing so heavy and tongue is curled. Vet thinks thrombo storm-doing xray. I am on hospitals’s waiting room computer. If I make it through tonight and Sunny does not I will be back on this site at some point. My mind feels whipped. Why is she breathing like this. I just held her isnside the pen and she rested her beautiful head on my shoulder. I do not think they can release her at 12am–I have a pillow in my car . I am staying. Oh fellow dog adorers , I am a basket case. I will get a grip though.
Maura, just checking in, I know it’s late your time. I am thinking of you and with you and Sunny and sending you so much love and healing energy. I would be a basket case too. We understand, so very well.
Keeping vigil with you –

Hi Maura – it is early morning here in Europe and I have only just seen your post. I am praying that Sunny pulls through. Yes, it can be quite common for dogs with these ghastly diseases to have multiple transfusions, and they can sometimes have bad reactions to them. But, the transfusions can also save their lives and give them a little more time for the drugs to work. I hope that when you read this there is better news, and that you can hang on in there
take care of yourself, too, and all your family, human or nonhuman
xx
Maura –
I’m so sorry for this awful awful time you are going through. You are such a wonderful mom though to your fur baby. Praying super hard that little Ms Sunny gets thru this transfusion and she gets the time she needs. Keep us posted when you can!
Hugs hugs hugs!
Hope and Steve
Dear Maura
I am sorry for being absent. I am away by the coast and have very little signal but am hoping there is enough for me to send you a message of support.
I have been in a very similar situation to you and Sunny with my cat Molly. She had been doing quite well and within a couple of hours she crashed, with a thready pulse and barely conscious. I was given the choice to transfuse or euthanise, and opted for the transfusion. I knew she may not survive the night, but she did and the transfusion eventually stabilised her for a while longer. As others have said, the transfusions buy them time for the drugs to work.
I’m not sure why Sunny is having the difficulty in breathing. An embolism is a possibility, or a transfusion reaction, though I expect your vets will have been watching closely for this. It could also be that Sunny is struggling to get enough oxygen around her body due to the anaemia and is breathing harder. If that is the case, the transfusion should help.
Hang in the Maura. This is a horrendous time for you I know, but you and Sunny have prayers coming from all over the world that she pulls through this.
With all best wishes,
Mary & Mable x
