Hi Maura
It is pretty common to see a drop after transfusions – nothing unusual, my friend. I agree with everyone – ask politely to stay around if she needs a transfusion & say you’ll just be there to comfort her because she is so frightened.
BUT you may get a pleasant surprise – maybe her PCV has gone up because the drugs are starting to work. Be patient – these things take time.
Could you do me a favour? Please print our glossary item on transfusions & the article on blood storage & take them to the vets with you just in case:

Hi Maura. I too, am thinking of you all. I am so glad you and Sunny have the support of your wonderful family. Of course, you have this forum too – always.
I am just catching up after being absent for too long. I apologize for not being here for you. I am so glad to read Sunny is now on anti-clotting medication. You are a most courageous lady and Sunny is one lucky little gal to have your love and allegiance.
Sending much love and huge hugs, Linda and Sadie
Dear Everyone,
Sunny is the same today-still hungry and thirsty but still down much of the time and terrible hind leg weakness. Our local clinic said they could do the PCV but had to send out for erythrocytes count (if there are any). So tomorrow we go to Orchard Park’s clinic where they could transfuse her if she’s low. It has been 7 days since the last one–which she had a reaction to so I am taking the info about duration and blood bank precautions.
Today my familýs fall schedule begins.
Just now Sunny chewed her food and spit out her pred and cippro. She is getting wise to all these pills.
I will let you know how tomorrow goes.
My daughter is busy now with school so that is good-
Thanks and I will talk to you soon

Maura, they are all normal symptoms of the pred. Good luck tomorrow. Yes they are very clever when they want to be with their tablets. Bingo actually loves to take his pred because he gets it with some dog food. He only gets dog food with his tablet and as a late night supper which he thinks he still needs.

Hey Maura!
glad to hear Sunny is hanging in there — Steve didn’t move literally for almost a month after he was diagnosed. Today, he still lays around MUCH MUCH more than he used to. And even when he gets up, he’s exhausted very quickly and knocks out. It’s to be expected. He also very quickly got smart to the meds — I was so frustrated when he started doing that because he’s on meds all through the day. I don’t know how ravenous Sunny is but I found that having a spoonful of something to feed right after is super helpful. I would either wrap the pill up in cheese or deli meat (no pill pockets for Steve – he’s got bladder stones and those are a no no) and as soon as he would put it in his mouth I would offer him a spoonful of cottage cheese. He would swallow immediately so he could get to that. He’s still on a lot of meds but my food-seeking dog is funny because he RUNS when he hears the sound of a pill bottle. Hang in there and keep us posted!
hugs!

Hi
Sunny began making some whimpering noises occassionally tonight. She has not had a bm and her stomach is gurgling like it is upset. I wish dogs could talk. She had her famatodine and misoprotsal today.
I hope she can sleep. My poor baby seems in pain.
Love,
Maura and Sunny
–and I am sorry I write so much.
Hey Maura!
Odd question but has she been gassy too? Just checking because Steve went thru some trouble last month where he was vomiting, had pale diarrhea, was super gassy and his stomach made awful LOUD noises.. we ended up switching his Famotidine to Omeprazole (aka Prilosec). You may want to ask your vet about that.. its a stronger tummy protectant. I’m not sure why most vets don’t offer that right out the gate but that with some Flagyl (we suspect he had a bacterial overgrowth in his GI tract also) made everything all better!
Hang in there!
Hope
