- Split: Tilly\\\'s labs :/
Thank you, everyone, for your continued support. Tilly’s PCV dropped from 45 to 41 in the past 2 weeks as we went from 1/4 pred daily to every other day. We sent out a CBC sample to check for spherocytes and I should hear tomorrow if the anemia has kick started again.
I didn’t get into further questioning about the topic of splenectomy since it’s more important to catch the anemia ASAP.
I can’t thank you all enough for taking the time to wish Tilly well and help me father information to make an informed decision. I’ll keep you posted.
Erica, I often found when reducing pred that there was a bit of a drop. Always enough to give you something to worry about, then it seemed to go back up again. I began to expect it to happen that way.
Also, even though we all hate to see any drop, 45 to 41 isn’t too bad. Bingo’s does seem to vary every test, 2 or 3 points up or down, every single time.
Fingers crossed.
Hi Erica
41 is not a bad PCV, but I understand why you are worrying. Checking for spherocytes is a good idea.
Worzel’s PCV varies between 55 & 65 (greyhounds are higher), & I used to get really upset if it dropped even 5 points, but as Vally says, it went back up again, then down again. Glad they are checking the sample properly & crossing everything that the anemia has NOT reappeared. Let us know when you can – thinking of you as always & big cuddles to Tilly

Phew! No spherocytes were seen and her Hct was up to 43%. We are in the clear!
I guess the lab didn’t calculate reticulocytes last year when she relapsed so our vet doesn’t know what to make of her moderately high count. It stayed stable in the 3% range over the past 2 weeks and he didn’t say there were any consequences of having a high number. It’s just puzzling why her body is compensating for rbc loss by making an excessive amount. She shows no signs of bleeding internally and is not jaundiced. Always something to fret about, I swear!
We are keeping her pred dose the same and recheck again in 2 weeks. Thanks again for all of your kind words and support. Please give your pups an extra belly rub and cuddle for me!
