- Split: Split: For Hope and Steve
Bon nuit Hope et Vally! I took about 6 years of French in jr high and high school. When I was in France the phrase I used the most was, “Je m’exuse — je parle Francais un petit peu et tres mal.” along with, of course, “Je m’excuse, je ne comprends pas.” Now I realize I was saying it all wrong, ugh! Anyway — Hope you made me LOL about the new exam rooms and flat screens. At the old vets they should damn well have the Ashki surgery suite or something, with ALL the latest equipment and flat screens. I added up how much I spent there and it is staggering. You can always try the idea I gave Anne-Marie? Maybe that will help. Have a wonderful Sunday y’all, scritchies and belly rubs to those boys.

OOhhhhh what a clever lot you are! My written French is still pretty bad actually.
Hope – I too did not want to upset anybody & you do need the support of these people badly, especially the internist. So softly softly & tactfully. It’s a difficult situation to be in & you’ll just have to do what you think is right. I thought I had upset my guy by contacting Dr Dodds because he didn’t answer my e-mails & I was really worried – turns out he had tried to contact her several times but the time difference made it difficult & he hadn’t got back to me because he was so busy!!! There you go – worrying over nothing. He said he didn’t mind who got involved as long as they were an expert on IMHA & Worzel got better. They really are different here (and that includes the human doctors/specialists too) & I know I’m lucky in this respect. The UK lot are not like this either – ego problems abound there with many vets & doctors. Always have!
Glad Steve has forgiven me now!

Hello all!
Sheena – I met the same :/ when I mentioned Dr. Dodds as well.. When i pushed it they did it. At first he said regardless he couldn’t give me thyroid medicine for Steve but after he saw the report she sent him, he changed his mind and no problems!
Someone brought up on the FB group and I just kind of thought.. When your babies were diagnosed did they have a fever? Steve had a terrible fever the night before, as well as the heavy heavy breathing. The emergency clinic he went to (different than now) never gave us an answer for why he had a fever.. Maybe bc of the ear infection he had at the time? That was being treated tho so idk.
Happy Monday! Ughhhh

Bonsoir J’espere.
Je suis desolee, parce-que j’ai oublie tous mon francais! I was in France recently and was delighted at how well I could “get by” – mainly because people looked at me pityingly and spoke in English ;)
Yes – Molly had terrible fevers. I don’t know why, but for a while she did perk up with antibiotics. I’m not sure if she had picked up an infection, as her white cell count was normal, but I remember them saying it could be a symptom of IMHA?
As for the heartworm meds, I think this is fairly standard. From what I remember of our internal medics, they did not deal with general things, only the specialist side. Everything else had to go back to the primary care vets.
Hope all is going well – how is that bruise? Give the boys a cuddle from me!

Yes Worzel had a high temperature, but only after taking the pred for a while. I knew there was something wrong with him for ages before he became really ill, but the vets said no temperature = no infection. We now know the pred gave the infection (99% probability ehrlichia) the chance to take hold. Damn thing can live in the bone marrow undetected for years & would not show up in a peripheral blood test. My vets were not perfect by any means until we found out he had IMHA, then they were brilliant. I took him in so many times before that – I can’t even remember how many – & they couldn’t find anything wrong & we had a vaccination done too – I regret this more than I can say (I feel like a stupid idiot actually), as it probably pushed him over the edge. Horrible worrying times when you KNOW there’s something not right, but you can’t put your finger on it.

Hey all!
Thanks for answering! Thinking back he may have had 1 or 2 low grade fevers before he got sick as well.. I attributed them to the ear infection he always had. The night I knew something was wrong tho his temp was super high and he was breathing so hard.
So I emailed dr dodds about heartworm preventative and she said either Heartgard or Trifexis.. I thought the latter was THE bad one so I’m a little surprised. Need to figure out which to use…
Thanks all!

Hi Hope,
I am not an expert when it comes to heartworm. Don’t have it here on the Island and I am thankful for that. With climate change that might change as well though so I should inform myself better. I assume you have read this blog by Dr. Dodds?:
