Hope,
Dr. Dodds has written extensively on the thyroid. Hemopet provides comprehensive thyroid testing and diagnostics.
This first article is an interview with Dr. Dodds and discusses what the thyroid does and what happened in hypothyroidism. Please read this carefully.

Dr. Dodds provides excellent diagnostics and you can read about that here.

This explains how this Hemolife test is used to differentiate between a low thyroid caused by disease of the thyroid or by some underlying disease (non-thyroidal illness, NTI)

This table is excellent at showing how the values from the thyroid test can be evaluated to assess thyroid function. Right click on the image and View Image.

Afternoon all!
sheena – thank you so much for the information as always… boo on HCT being less accurate than PCV though! lol! That 44% was super exciting! Thank you also for the reassurance about keeping on the sucralfate meds — definitely trying to keep steve’s GI issues from a few weeks ago away and so far, the Sucralfate and Prilosec (from Pepcid) changes seem to be working fantastically.
Patrice – thank you for the information on Dr. Dodds and her work with thyroid disease as well!
Hope everyone and their fur babies are doing well!
Hugs,
xoxo hope and the stinkers
Hope, Bingo was on the sucralfate for at least 18 months until we got him down to lower dose pred. The only problem with it was his funny look whenever I came towards him with he syringe of the stuff. Is your’s liquid or tablet? Here it had to be dissolved in a little water and syringed in.
Love Vally & Ever so gad I don’t need that yukky stuff any more.
Hey Vally!
Steve is taking one from his cousin Bingo bc he’s got a sad sad pathetic look down pat whenever I come towards him with the syringe. Same here – tablet dissolved in water. He hates it! And I only give it twice a day (instead of 3x) because I couldn’t work it into his schedule at all..he’s lucky and he doesn’t even know it! Lol
Hugs!

P.S. Jeffrey is officially a stinker — he’s developing “bulldog problems” as his vet tells me. His little corkscrew tail is infected because it’s so tight up against his anus… Apparently that’s why they crop them a bit when they’re young generally. Hubs wanted to but i wouldn’t let him. So J’s got a sore on the inward facing part of his tail and it STINKS!
Hey all!
Just checking in– super Steve is doing well! PCV was 42% last Sunday. He’s hovered at 40-42% since June.. Is that “okay”? It’s obviously in the normal range so I’m thrilled but I didn’t know if maybe it was abnormal for it to jump fast then plateau.
I was reading posts on the other threads and I have a question..where else should I be looking to try to figure out what caused IMHA? I was telling someone just the other day that it’s such a cop out (I feel anyway) to say “oo it’s idiopathic”.
We’ve looked at the following:
– vaccination history: hadnt been vaccinated in almost a year
– Babesia: negative
– zinc poisoning: negative
– tick-borne diseases: negative
– he had been given Comfortis combo pill one week prior.. First time in a few months.
– tried out different dog food a few months prior
– chronic ear infections –> this is associated with hypothyroidism, which he has mildly by Dr Dodds testing
– new allergy medication 2 months prior
How can I try to work it out any more specifically? Any ideas?
Thanks all! Hugs!
