- Split: For Hope and Steve
I’m thinking the urine could possibly be the meds, but I like Brigitte’s idea of the in-house analysis. Whenever there were any accidents at home – and Bingo says he didn’t do it! – I’d use a product called Exelpet ENZ Stain and Odour – it is a bio enzymatic product (whateva!) . Brilliant stuff – really gets rid of all odours. Removes all odours. I don’t know if that’s available there but you’d find something similar. Go for something that is specially made to remove dog/cat urine.
Also ditto on the prednisone, don’t worry if you’re a bit late.
Love Vally & Bingo (who insists he didn’t do it!)
Hope, there’s a great product over here if you can’t find the one Vally suggested. It’s called Anti Icky Poo — silly name but it’s amazing. It can be hard to find in stores, I’ve only seen it in one pet supply.

Hey all!
Thanks for answering all of my many questions all of the time (not to mention playing therapist for me) .. I know they’re endless!
Brigitte/Vally – What is an in-house urinalysis? I’m super intrigued, though I am going to mention it to the vet tomorrow when we take him in for another PCV check.
Brigitte – He’s been on dry U/D (prescription diet) dog food for 3 years because of his bladder stones. Since the iMHA diagnosis, we added in wet U/D to go with it because he hates it usually. However.. I cooked for him today! I’m going to do Dr. Dodds’ liver cleanse. It’s really funny _ i don’t cook for myself or hubby. You wouldn’t want me to really, I promise. But I cooked for my Steve! I’m only a little nervous because of the garlic thing — I did garlic salt like Tamara recommended (Dr. Dodds says to add salt too) but I am just panicky about everything these days. I didn’t use a lot obviously. The bloat thing just kind of came to my mind when I was watching him eat yesterday.. the vet had told us a long time ago that we should watch him because he’s so oddly deep chested for a Dalmatian.. People think he is mixed with Great Dane usually because of it. I think I’m going to aim for 3-4 small meals a day, though it’s tricky because of the MMF.
Tamara – both Dr. Dodds and everyone on this site is amazing! I would have certainly gone off the crazy end if it weren’t for everyone on here. When the website wasn’t working earlier, I panicked.. thought I had broken it! That’s crazy that your friend with the Dalmatians had issues with the thyroid. I’m going to talk to him about it tomorrow when I go in.
I ended up using Odoban – they sell it as an enzymatic blah blah thing at Sam’s. It says its for animal excrement so we’ll see how that goes. If not, I’ll be ringing up PetSmart looking for Anti Icky Poo lol!
I am trying to start the Milk Thistle and sam-E this weekend — I ordered milk thistle especially for dogs yesterday off of Amazon but when I went to my pharmacy today, they had it in human version. Does anyone know which is supposed to be better or if it matters at all? I think the human version is obviously more potent but I am just curious. I wanted to get the Denamarin but I didn’t feel comfortable getting it from that website without a script when Tamara has to get hers as a prescription.
Thanks all!
Hugs!
Hope and Spoiled Steve (currently trying to get food off the counter)
Hi Hope
You learn something new every day here! Anti Icky Poo! Well, whatever next.
Suspect smelly urine may possibly be an infection – Worzel had that years ago when we first adopted him (I think I mentioned he pee’d all over my bed!). These drugs weaken their immune system – that’s the whole idea of course – so they are prone to this kind of problem. OR it could be he’s a bit dehydrated – that makes urine stronger (more concentrated) – make sure he’s drinking plenty of water.
Greyhounds are prone to bloat too, and from reading up on it, it’s hereditary – I have no idea where Worzel came from as he was dumped at the side of the road, so family history not available! Putting water in with any dried food is always recommended for breeds prone to this. I avoided dried food totally, but I appreciate with Steve’s history, that is more difficult for you.You can’t stop them gobbling it down at a rate of knots when they are ravenous with the pred, so small regular meals would be better.
How’s the runny poo situation today? Don’t we talk about lovely things on here!
Take care
Sheena & the Hot Boys (both not liking a sudden run of hot weather here) xxxx
Hey Sheena!
His runny poop had actually somewhat cleared up – late the night I posted with worry, it started looking good and it was great yesterday, pretty firm too (yum). I started him on Dr. Dodd’s liver cleanse diet last night and his BM this morning was totally diarrhea so I’m a little bummed. I googled around and some said that that is to be expected at first but I’m going to add a little pumpkin to his food tonight to try to calm that down.
He’s going back for another PCV check today .. I’ll keep yall posted!
Thanks!
