Hi Lynda
Patrice has a very good point – we have had a few UK dogs with tick diseases on the old AIHA site, so it’s worth checking for sure. They recovered after doxycycline treatment. Worzel had ehrlichioisis & had 5-6 weeks high dose doxycycline too. Can they do a Snap 4dx test over there?
I have heard about greyhounds being prone to doing the splits & tearing the pectineus muscle. This muscle is very hard to examine as it is deep within the groin/stomach area, again an idea to suggest though.
Give Dora & Shona a big gentle hug from me

Hi Lynda. Welcome home. But so sorry about Shona. Darn get aways!!! Wam. Here’s hoping she’ll be as good as new SOON!
Agree with Patrice too, and all, about testing for tick borne problems. I don’t think the test is too expensive and worth it for ruling out. When Sadie relapsed this last time (October), along with the CBC, we added the tick profile. Thank goodness, it was negative, but worth ruling out. I don’t trust this ‘never’ stuff. Doubting Thomas. ;)
I’m so glad you are not having to trudge trough this alone. Friendship is golden. Please keep us posted.
Sending smooches to the pups, with lots of love too,
Linda and Sadie
Hi lynda,
good to have you back! It is hard to travel when you have dogs, even if you know they are well looked after, nobody can look after them the way we do… right? I will be away the end of February fo a month. as exited as I am for our trip, as nervous I am to leave the dogs.
When I read about Shona I had the same thought as Patrice, ticks. It is an easy blood test and better safe than sorry. You said yourself that it is weird that she has a fever with a neurological problem.
Best wishes,
Brigitte
Hi again Lynda
Been thinking about the fever side – a haematoma could cause a fever too. These pools of blood can become infected & often appear after severe strain/extension injury. My Mum in law fell badly on an escalator, badly injuring both her ankles – tendons & ligaments, then developed haematomas in both which became infected. She developed a high temperature the day after the accident & I took her straight to hospital again. Just another idea – Worth thinking about as you don’t know what tests have been done.
It’s hard when you’re tired to think properly. Tick diseases can cause lameness & are worth eliminating, even though they are rare in the UK.
I will be thinking of you all day – keep us posted

Oh my poor Lynda & Consuelo
I’m devastated for you. I don’t know what to say other than this is so unfair, tragic & awful, awful, awful for you both. You know, you are the two of the kindest people on the planet. I am crying for you both. Too much pain to bear in such a short time.
Much love & heartfelt sympathy

Dearest Lynda and Consuelo,
I am so very sorry. How devastating and crushing this is for you both. You are both the best of the best fur parents. Your love and devotion is over the top. I am crying for you both, and for Shona and Dora too.
You know, they are the best, our fur companions. I just wish they could talk and tell us what they’ve been into and where they hurt. The loyalty is second to none and we are left to guess what we can do to help them. They much smarter than some (most, actually) humans that I know. Yet, they are fur children and can not talk or convey their concerns, hurts, pain. Somehow, we try to figure it all out and do the best we can. Because, they are our fur children and we love them so much.
And you, Lynda and Consuelo (so sorry too, Consuelo, not being home yet and grieving from afar…..), are two of the most loyal fur parents ever. You not only did and do all you can for your fur children, but you also have this common-sense, get them out there and enjoy life attitude. That has continually amazed me.
Shona was the luckiest, as all of our fur companions are on this site (because we are here due our loyalty and love). The love and life you gave her was the best. You have to keep reminding yourself of this.
Those on this forum that have loved so and lost, I am so truly sorry. I think of you all daily. I wish I could take just a small part of the pain and sadness away for you all. You are all the most unselfish.
RIP Shona. We all here on this forum love you, precious girl.
With the most sincere condolences and love,
Linda
