Hi Sheena , everyone,i was a bit worried yesterday evening as Snoopy was laying down in hallway to keep cool, when he started trembling? not all over but his neck and shoulders? it hadn’t been long after he had eaten. It carried on for a while, he also seems more tiredthis morning not as good as the other day had some more mucle trembling again , just wandered if thiscould be side effect of drugs? thankyou , love jill xxxx

They get very hot with the drugs. If this happens again after food, I suspect tummy ache might be the problem – not sure. When does Snoopy have his azathioprine? Do you think he has any pain at all?

Worzel got very weak, but only trembled when he tried to get up or was having a poo (sorry to be graphic!) because his back leg muscles had shrunk quite badly. Unfortunately these drugs do have side effects, but without them, they wouldn’t get better, so we have to deal with it as well as we can.

I gave Worzel more food more often because he was always hungry – despite that, his muscles did atrophy with the prednisolone.

It is a marathon getting them through this – let us know how he is today & if it happens again.

HI Sheena, Snoopy is ok thankyou, he hasnt had thst horrible muscle trembling since that evening, i havegot the slippery elm from health food shop but was just going to ask you again if it is safe to have along with the other meds he is on? He is onprednisolone and azathioprine , and the ompazole and sam e? Also as the slippery elm is from health food shop and is for us humans is it ok? Sorry to keep asking these questions thankyou xx jill

Hi Jill, that’s great about the trembling. Fingers crossed it was just an reaction. As Sheena said, I also find Bingo’s back legs trembled a lot, particularly after a walk or after doing something.

Slippery elm is great stuff. Yes human is fine as you are probably getting better quality. I’m sure if you bought a special slippery elm for dogs, it would just cost more.

Make sure you give it away from meds though as it decreases their efficiency. Minimum of 1 hour away – 2 would be better. Maybe add it to a snack late at night or around lunch time. Ideally it should be given with water so mix it with a little water and add to the snack. I used to make up a pot of it by mixing a heaped teaspoon in a cup of water, bring it to the boil stirring. Simmer it for another few minutes until it turns into “goop”. Cover and keep in the fridge and it’s good for a few days.

I am SO pleased to read your lovely news that Snoopy is regenerating and his PCV is going up. Wonderful!
I’m really pleased to hear from Sheena that Snoopy isn’t at high risk of clotting problems. That’s a big relief too. I can quite understand you having a little cry.
I’m sorry you had a scare with the trembling. Hopefully it was just a one off, although the pred can give them some side effects so keep an eye on him. Sheena has already said, don’t think about reducing it yet!

Anyway, lovely news. I’m so pleased for you, Tim and of course, beautiful Snoopy, that things are now going in the right direction.

Hi all thankyou so much for your help, SNOOPY doez still have attack of the trembling , he had bit diareh again and straight after that he just stood there couldnt move and was trembling all over, mayby his belly is hurting after the diareh , sorry to be graphic, he had just had his predoisilone 30 mins or so before this, which i always give with food.We do have some pro kolin the vet gave us last time we saw him so I’m thinking of giving him that as do you know if its best to give this alone lbefore or after food? Im also lwandering if the slippery elm would lbe ok or make him hav e a bit of ldiareh to? I havent gave him any yet las was going to give him last thing tonight befofe he had his diareh .hope all is well with you , love jill xxx
