Quick update for Jill – vet also thinks it could be Giardia & treating for worms as well. Snoopy had a good night with no more vomiting, but still has the runs.
Vet says Sucralfate has definitely been withdrawn (banned) in the UK & agreed it was really good stuff – shame. Jill is trying the slippery elm as well as omeprazole, so that should help his tum-tum heal nicely.
Love to all
Hi all, well Snoopy seemed to have perked up a bit yesterday, even though he still had diareh, he ate small amount of fish and loved it, he was probably hungry as he hadn’t eaten since Saturday! Then last night I gave him slippery elm as thought it would help his tum, this morning however he is back looking glum not eating and there are thoes noises in his tum again! I think the diareh is working round him. we saw the vet mondaymorning and he was given pancur from our vets to take with food starting today for 3 days, and also he was given an antisickness injection. He did say it could be Gardia or another parasite Snoopy has picked up, they wanted to keep him in if he got anyworse, but because his gums were pink and moist, and he wasn’t throwing up his drugs, I was allowed to take him home.It such a worry he has been doing so well, we were due to start reducing the Azthioprine, but will leave this now till he is better. Im thinking mayby give the pancur in the evening? Does anyone know if I give him both sachets together in his food? Sheena has been such a great friend and helped me & Snoopy so much ! im afraid ive become that paranoid mum again worrying all the time! couldn’t sleep last night, it was so humid here and had Snoopy on my mind. Hope you are all well, love jill and a smelly Snoopy xxx
Hi Jill
Hang on in there – these nasty tummy bugs are sent to try our patience! You think you are the only paranoid one here? I promise we are all as bad as you are & I will never be any different.
Yet again you have been wonderful getting the vets to do all the right things & Snoopy will soon be able to reduce the azathioprine, but later than planned – what’s a couple of weeks extra – nothing in the grand scheme of things.
Hope Snoop Doggy Dog will be feeling back on form in a few days. It honestly took Worzel a good week to feel better after his Giardia infection – it is a nasty but quite common infection.

Hi all, just an update on how Snoopy is doing, well the Giardia or parasite that he has had all cleared up now, he was put on matrodinazole and also had to take the pancur sachets. He didn’t do well on the metrodinazol he was really spaced out on it and not himself so by a couple days our vet said to leave it off, Sheen said to go back on the Tylan and this seems to have done the job! Its a great drug.We have had his pcv checked and he is a stable 52 atthe moment .We have reduced the Azthioprine now over roughly a 2 week period and he is now off of it altogether! he does however have high liver enzyms? so he is on the Sam e and milk thistle along with the Tylan, his poo has gone back to being nicely solid! sorry to be graphic, we also had Snoopy tested for vit b 12 at our vets and are waiting for the results,in another 2 weeks time our vet is going to check Snoopys Liver so im hoping now he is off the Aza and omeprazole and taking supplements it will have started to come down.Sheena has been so great in helping Snoopy get over this terrible illness and has always been there for us, thankyou Sheen xxxx and thankyou so much to everyone on the site who has supported us throughout xxxx love ya! from Jill & Snoops, xxxxxx
Wonderful news – Jill you are awesome getting him back on track. I can only tell you what I know – listening & acting on the advice is down to YOU not me.
UK vets can be “challenging” & not prepared to listen or discuss anything. Thank goodness the guy you are now seeing is more open minded & you can actually build a relationship – he sounds very nice & obviously loves Snoopy – how could you not?
Have you uploaded a photo of your beautiful boy lately? We’d all like to see those beautiful eyes.
Love & hugs always
