Hi everyone, just thought I would update Snoopys progress, we have more good news about Snoopy, his latest blood test , (PCV) has come back and he is now 55.5, which is slightly lower than previously but still a good normal range which Sheena explained to me. I didn’t realise it could go up and down slightly depending on how hydrated Snoopy is at the time. So we are carrying on with the predon reduction, we are down to 5mg everyother day, which takes a bit of getting used to, it seems so long now that I have been giving him that drug every morning, and evening, thankyou for the charts as its so much easier to go by. The only other thing at the vets I got checked out were Snoopys ears as he had been trying to scratch them for a couple of evenings, and sure enough he has a low grade ear infection in both ears, so we have been prescribed ear drops for him.I have also noticed he is a bit more lethargic on the days he dosent have the predon, but im thimking its his body getting used to the new dose.He now weighs 27 kilos so im cutting back a bit with the food which is easy as he dosent seem as hungry now he is on that lower dose .He has started being a bit picky however and not liking the royal canine as much so I tried him on the hills id dry food that he was on previously and he seems to prefer that at the moment, only it was the low fat hills id , so im thinking changing back to the original gastrointestinal hills id . I hope you and your lovely pooches are all well, much love Jill & Snoopy xxxxx
Hi everyone, just an update on Snoopys progress. Snoopy has had his 2 week pcv test done in house which was 55 which is good, but while we were at the vets we pointed out Snoopys dark markings that have appeared over some parts of his body, eg, the shaven areas on his flanks, his legs, they had started about a month ago ,small at first but have got bigger, well our vet though it could be signs of Snoopys blood not clotting properly, or could even be lungworm desease.Well we were shocked, he needed 2 tests done one, were they slit a small area on Snoopys gum to watch and see how quick the blood appears, and a blood test for the lungworm.these were booked in for the next day. When we got home I spoke to Sheen and she said it could be a side effect of the pred? She sent us some pictures of Worzel who had similar markings and some info from the site, and I must say it looked very similar.I cant thank Sheena enough for her help, we were so worried Snoopy had something else wrong, and he had been getting on so well.We decided to go ahead with the tests however to be on the safe side, but apparently another dog from this site also had similar markings, Steve I think? The test for Snoopys blood clotting was fine, we are just waiting for results of the lungworm test but we are thinking he hasn’t got that as no signs of it , but vet said it can effect the blood. We were told to up Snoopys pred to 5mg every day instead of every other day. We decided not to do this and carried on doing it every other day till we got the results back from the tests. Which are fine, so we have now stopped the pred as this was the original plan after this latest pcv test and Sheen said we wont him off it now as these markings are a side effect from it.I must say I was a bit nervous on dropping it ,I will be constantly checking gums and keeping a close eye on him. We then have to wait 2 weeks , then another pcv,all being well then start to reduce the Azthioprine,We will up date again at this point.I cant thank Sheen enoughfor all her continued help throughout Snoopys progress, she has been my rock, Thankyou Sheen xxxxx and thanks to the site for all the info and support we have received. love and hugs Jill and Snoopy xxxx
I’ll bet Sheena is right too. I think I probably would have gone ahead with the test too or it will just be something sitting in the back of your mind. Yes let us know what the results are but I think you’ve done everything right.

Hiya Jill & everyone
Yes – poor Jill had a bit of a panic, so we had a good old chat on the phone (& a good laugh). Her vets were only trying to be cautious & have been sensible – luckily the blood test was absolutely superb – no clotting issues at all, but it’s ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry & check things out.
Worzel is so similar to Snoopy in colouring & I was similarly puzzled a few years ago as to why his skin turned dark – it’s actually black in a lot of places, especially where it was shaved – it is hyperpigmentation due to the pred side effects as we suspected! Nothing to worry about at all. But it could have been & we never want to take any risks. One of the best things about this site is that we can share experiences & funny side effects with others who have likely seen it before.
Snoopy’s bloods show a wonderful recovery, Jill – you are one awesome Mum & have taken on board everything we’ve said. I’m so happy he’s doing really well. All of us are always nervous when reducing the drugs – I was on hot pins, constantly gum checking too! But you have done a nice, gentle reduction which is always the safest option.
And now getting Snoopy off the azathioprine is the next step, after the next PCV check – this is such GREAT progress.
Love & hugs always,
Sheen & the hounds

Hi everyone, thankyou for your messages, im definitely in your club of paranoid doggie parents ! I can see myself being like this forever now, mind you I think its best to be over cautious than not.Snoopys test for the lungworm has come back negative so that’s great news. Sheena was right all along , she knows so much about this dreadful desease , its so good to have a chat with her which really doeshelp in reassuring me.We have now dropped the Pred and ive noticed these last few mornings he has been a bit more tired first thing, im thinking his body has to get used to it.I will update again after next pcv and then all being well start the Azthioprine reduction,we are nearly there, hope everyone s doggies are well , love and hugs Jill and a spotty Snoopy xxxxx
ps,
Thanks Sheena , its through your guidance and support that Snoopy has done so well im sure , Snoopy is our baby and he means so much to us .xxxxxxx
