Hi Linda , Valley and everyone, thankyou so much for your messages ,Snoopy is doing well, it has a lot to do with all the help and support I have received from this site and a special lady called Sheen.Ofcourse I will be celebrating especially when Snoopy is off the Predon.Sorry to hear poor Bingo suffers from Arthritis Valley, poor thing they seem to suffer the same us as humans don’t they.I will try to help support anyone who needs it Linda, although I have to work more hours now which really tire me out. Will let you know how Snoopys next pcv check goes.Love and hugs to you all and your lovely doggies , Jill & Snoops xxxxxxx
Hi all , We have goodnews again,Snoopys pcv test has come back and he is a stable 57.7! whopeeee! we are so pleased, hes recovering nicely. The only thing I wasn’t sure of at the vets was they told me not to give Snoopy anymore of the omeprazole? I asked why and they said he shouldn’t need it now he is on such a low dose?i have had a chat with my lovely friend Sheena and decided to give Snoopy 10mg of the omeprazole to see how he goes as I was nervous of not giving him anything to protect his stomache? We have started the next reduction of 5mg of predon in morning and none at night?i have to say this morning he is a little bit slower than usual but im thinking its probably hes body getting used to the reduction? Snoopys currently on : 5mg predon , 50mg azathioprine, 1 milk thistle capsule, 2x200mg Sam e,1 x tylan ,1 x proplan probiotic( fort flora).Thankyou to you all for your help with Snoopy xxxHope allyour doggies are well, love and Jill & Snoopy xxxxx
ps also looking to purchase a supplement for Snoopys bones, as he is stiff in mornings and suffers with his bad leg which he has a limp . I was thinking to purchase some Taumeel s? As the lovely Sheena has said this could help? any advice would be appreciated thankyou love Jill xxxx
Jill,
Yayyyyy on Snoopy’s latest. I agree it’s better to keep with the omeprazole for a bit longer.
For the supplement, Dr Jean Dodds suggested Glycoflex II to me, however, Bingo hated this. I know Sheena and Linda both use Glycoflex III, which has a few more ingredients.
Personally my favourite supplements for joints are green lipped mussel capsules. gelatin. I’ve had Bingo on these forever. In fact he’s probably on a bit too high a dose of GLM at 1,000 mg a day, but every time I’ve cut it down, I’ve seen a difference. In the end, his vet said leave him on the higher dose. May give him runnier poos, but that’s about it. I do use a lot of other stuff, but I’ve added them all in gradually, a bit at a time.
So that would be my suggestion, but please ask your vet to be sure that there’s no problem and always start with a little to make sure it doesn’t upset them. Bingo has pretty much a cast iron stomach.

Hi Valley thankyou for your help, I will ask at my vets next time I go, they have suggested I use Remidryl? (sorry i don’t know if I have spelt that right)and theres no way I want Snoopy on them, I wanted a safe alternative so will ask vets if its ok to give Snoopy one of the supplements you have suggested.Als o do you think the 10 mg of the omeprazole should be enough or should I keep Snoopy on the 20 mg that he has been on all along? hope you and Bingo are well, love Jill & Snoopy xxxx
Jill, you don’t mean Rimadyl do you? That’s a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and to my knowledge, NSAIDS should NOT be given to a dog on a steroid drug such as prednisone. Maybe it’s something else.
I remember Bingo was given drops for pain relief at one time and from memory, I think it was Tramadol.
Bingo used sucralfate. His specialist said when we got down to lower prednisone doses, I could stop using it, but we compromised from 3 times a day, down to twice a day, to once daily until I stopped. I’d do the 10mg of omeprazole and, as Sheena said, just see how Snoopy goes. I’ll bet he’ll be fine.
