Hi everyone, we had a vet appointment yesterday were we had Snoopys blood level checked and are now just waiting for blood test results to hopefully carry on there reducing of Snoopys predon. He is doing really well, he now weighs 26.4 kilos he is a big boy! he did lose weight at the beginning of this illness so its good to see him getting his weight back.We actually had to see a different vet who said it could have been idiopathic aiha?we haven’t heard of that. He has never seen Snoopy before but from test results it looks like he has eaten something he shouldn’t have that caused this dreadful deseaseWhen Snoopy was first diagnosed we were quizzed as to what he might have eaten~? Sheen has helped us so much with looking at test results ect, she has always been there for us throughout Snoopys illness, we cant thank her enough.xxxxx and all you lovely ladies for your support xx We never got our day out in the end it was just dreadfully cold and windy here so we stayed home. Will let you know when we have Snoopys test results back.hope all your doggies are well, love and hugs Jill & Snoops
Hiya Jill & everyone
Jill eventually managed to get the vet report on Snoopy & sent it to me – he had Heinz Body Anaemia –
https://www.secondchanceaihadogs.com/AIHA_Terms/heinz-body-anemia/
so at least we know what it was now, which is always a great part of the puzzle. On his later blood tests, the Heinz Bodies all disappeared, so, ingesting something toxic that caused him to break down his own red cells is the most likely culprit – whatever it was is gone from his system, thank goodness. He had diarrhoea & vomiting when he was in the emergency room, so maybe it was all ejected then? Hard to say.
Metals, coins, plants (which from talking to Jill sounds like a possibility as Snoopy liked to nibble a plant in the garden – he is banned from it now obviously!) & some drugs cause this form of anaemia.
Jill hope Snoopy’s PCV results will be great & that you get them back soon.
Love & hugs to you & Snoop Doggy Dog as always,
Sheen, Worzie & Ollie xxxxx
Hi everyone ,Sheen, Valley, we have Snoopys blood level test results back , his blood has gone up to 57, from 55 which is good , so we can now carry on and lower the predon to 5mg in morning and 5mg in evening,( Snoopy was previously on10mg in morning and 5mg in evening,) The vet did say he wants Snoopy off the steroids as soon as possible because of the muscle wastage which we know he has im hoping he will slowly regain this and might be having some hydrotherapy when Snoopy has recovered all being well.He now weighs 26.4 kilos im hoping im not overfeeding him , not really sure what he should be but think he was previously in the region of 24kilos.I still only take him for short walks as he is still a little shaky on his skinny legs although at times he seems back to normal and trys to pull me a long!he only has so much energy and when its run out he just has to rest, im hoping this will improve in time.He has done so well , I m so pleased, thankyou all for your help with him, he means the world to us, hope your doggies are well, love and hugs Jill & Snoops xxxxx ps whenever we are out im extra vigilent with him in regards to letting him eat anything! this goes for at home to!
Hi Jill. This is wonderful news about Snoopy’s fantastic PCV!!! It is so nice to read success stories and Snoopy is certainly is that catagory! You and Snoopy deserve huge congratulations! And I am so happy that you are sticking around to help others. Thank you so much. 🐾
Sending huge hugs and much love, Linda and Sadie 😍
I think that deserves a celebration. Wonderful news.
Bingo was a hefty 8.5 kg when he was diagnosed. Without realising, I assumed because he was getting older, he was getting lazier. In fact, he was hypothyroid. One of the symptoms of hypothyroidism, putting on weight. In fact he had several of the symptoms, which I soon learned. So that was very likely the cause of his AIHA. In the weeks that followed, he dropped down to 6.5kg and eventually recovered back up to about 7.5kg. He is now just over 7kg, which is good for him. He’s a little on the skinny side, but he has arthritis now as well, so a little lean is good for him.
