Hi everyone, we had Snoopys pcv results back yesterday and it has gone up to 55! So that is great news! we can carry on the reducing of the predon again and he will be on 10 mg in morning and 5 mg in evening, I will be keeping close eye on him and checking his gums.Apparently his white blood count has gone lower which worried me but Sheena says its normally a bit low for lurcher salukis .im hoping this will right itself after he is off all the drugs. Snoopy is still very hungry all the time he is eating 6 to 7 medium meals a day !and has put slight bit of weight on, I was worried I might be over feeding him but in the evening he will come and stand in front of me and start talking to me asking for more! Thanks to everyone for all your help with Snoopy, love and hugs Jill & Snoopy xxxxx
Hi everyone,we have the results of Snoopys pcv, it has gone up to 55! which is good news, so we will continue to reduce the predon. Snoopy is now on 10mg in morning and 5 mg in evening,we are going by Sheenas charts and it seems to be working perfectly! Thanks Sheen, I tick off each time I give him his medication, he has definitely perked up and is much brighter! We are half way through the reduction now so fingers crossed everything stays fine, still constantly checking gums! hope all your doggies are well, love jill and Snoops xxxx
Hi sweetie!
We are all thrilled about 55 – a normal greyhound PCV. I bet you he will end up being mid-60s eventually, like Worzel (& Ollie). This is the best news & he sounds a bit more perky too. I found Worzel suddenly started acting more normal at this level AND he did start to slowly get his muscle tone back – slowly, slowly is always best. His appetite got a bit less too – not so ravenous, not eating like an ogre so much.
(Quick note: I knew greyhounds had high red cells, high PCV, low platelets & low WBCs because of looking into it for Worzel – that’s why they make fantastic blood donors. Looking further for Jill, I found that Salukis are even higher – they seem to have the highest PCV of all & Snoopy is a saluki cross greyhound lurcher – that was why we were very concerned about the vets going too early & too fast with the reductions)
I know it seems like an eternity sometimes when lowering the drugs, but it is way too risky rushing things. We like words like slowy, carefully, cautiously. Our favourite words are normal, better, in remission!
Keep it going Jill – you have been absolutely brilliant & have listened carefully to everything we’ve said or suggested. I know exactly how hard this has been – standing up to vets can be very hard. I know myself from personal experience how horrible & awkward you feel. It is worth it though. After all, who else can speak up for our dogs except us? You have certainly fought Snoopy’s corner. He is doing really well thanks to YOU, you awesome lady!
Love & hugs from Sheen & the boys xxxxx
