Hi Jill, I wouldn’t panic. Sometimes anything can set it off. Ideally you would fast a dog for a day. Never ever could do that though with Bingo. He said he would surely die and I fell for it. The most I would do was just do boiled turkey and sushi rice for a few days.
Snoopy’s still on a fair dose of prednisone so no way would I not give that with food. Keep food bland for a few days and see how he goes. He’s still on Tylan powder isn’t he? He’s drinking okay is he?
Mary’s dogaware site is fabulous. If you go through that as above you’ll see she covers absolutely every topic.
If it continues or there is blood, it’s a visit to the vet. Most times though it settles down on its own.
Amy I tried making my own kefir once. Didn’t work. It stayed runny with no curds. Oh and the house stunk !!!! Your vet does sound wonderful. There’s nothing like knowing you have a vet that cares.

Thankyou Valley , Snoopy has been off the Tylan powder for a while now, but I will be given him it as Sheen remended me it worked last time, Snoopy has had 3 lots of direh this morning very watery but brown cant see no blood in it , sorry to be graphic, but he really smells? im hoping it will settle down on the Tylan, it worked a treat last time.We have apt at vets Thursday for next pcv, so fingers crossed everythings ok.Could I ask you Vally if you know of any joint supplement for Snoopys bones? as he is quite stiff in mornings ?our vet said it was good idea but im not sure what one would be ok? thankyou for all your help, love and hugs jill and Snoopy xxxx
Jill don’t laugh. Bingo currently gets these:
Glyco-Flex II (1/2 chew in the morning) – although I’ve ordered Flex III
Green lipped mussel (500mg) – 1 capsule pm
Gelatin – ½ teaspoon (twice daily)
Brewer’s yeast – ¼ teaspoon (once daily pm)
Turmeric – 1/16 teaspoon (twice daily)
Ester C – ½ of 625mg tablet (once daily am)
Vitamin E – 1/8 teaspoon (once daily pm)
Coconut Oil –¼ teaspoon (twice daily)
Cinnamon – 1/32 teaspoon (daily pm)
Ginger – 1/32 teaspoon (daily pm)
Brookby Herbs Organic Free Mover (Devil’s Claw, Hawthorne, ACV) – 7 drops (twice daily)
Of course that’s not it, the poor dog also gets a Vitamin B tablet daily and some milk thistle and last but not least, his medications.
Now whatever you do, DO NOT try adding all of these things. I started with these well before he got sick (2011) as he was showing symptoms of back pain and he always had a “wonky” (medical term) leg, adding them in gradually one by one. I make up little pots of the powder supplements that he gets at night and add them to his food otherwise he’d lose it while I’m adding them one at a time.
My favourites are the green lipped mussels, turmeric and gelatin. I get a preservative free gelatin.
The Glycoflex II contains GLM, MSM, DMG (??? whatever that is) glucosamine HCI and brewers yeast. Its in a tasty chew which is hidden in Bingo’s food and which he finds and SPITS OUT !!! In fact I’m ordering the Flex III which also has a few extras, like Vit C and E (so I’ll have to adjust what I’m giving when that turns up). Dr Dodds suggested the GlycoFlex for Bingo and I know that Sheena and Linda are also using the Flex III.
Vally & He who eats powders.
Hi Valley, thanks for your help, gosh that’s an impressive list you have there! sounds like you know your stuff! im always weary of what I give Snoopy as I said before his got a sensitive tum, the flex 111 sounds good though were would I purchase this from? Snoopy is back on the Tylan no diareh as yet this morning will have to see how he is later but the Tylan seems to work like magic! im so grateful for Sheen to have introduced me to that as if not I think he would probably be back on the metrodzole?( don’t know if I spelt that right) he has had 2 lots of that and each time he just looked really out of it, like spaced out? im not a great fan but it did stop his direh to.hopeing all your lovely doggies are doing well , love and hugs Jill and Snoopy xxxx
Hi Jill
Completely agree with Vally – don’t add anything at the moment – we don’t want to rock Snoopy’s boat as it’s sailing along nicely towards recovery at the moment!
I added various things into Worzel’s regime gradually – some things gave him the runs – so another reason not to mess around at the moment. Wait until he’s off the drugs. Coping with the side effects they get is hard, I know, but they will pass. I suspect he has muscle weakness – Worzel certainly did – & Snoopy will be better when he gets himself back to normal physique!
It’s also important to know exactly what you are dealing with – a precise diagnosis from your vet after a good examination will tell you more & then you can treat him accordingly.
I use Glycoflex III for Ollie because he has a bit of arthritis, but NOT for Worzel – he doesn’t have arthritis, he has lumbo-sacral stenosis, so needs different treatment. That’s why it’s so important to get the vet to tell you what’s wrong.
Hope this helps! A world of worry will always surround us with this damn disease – we have to think differently as we can’t risk things that normal dogs can have.
Love & huge hugs

Thanks Sheen, I will just stick to what meds ect, Snoopy is having at mo, as you said don’t want to rock his boat ,I think it is the muscle wastage , he looks skinny and hes a bit shaky sometimes and weak on his legs, I think that is those side effects of the weaning , cant wait till eventually seeing him back to his old self! fingers crossed, the diraeh has gone so that’s good, will let you knowhow we get on at vets as Snoopy is due another pcv, thanking you all, hope your doggies are well , love Jill & Snoopy xxxxxx
Hi everyone, we had our apt at vets yesterday for Snoopy for blood level to be checked , we are waiting for the results so that we can hopefully continue the reduction on the predon. I ended up going on my own as hubby couldn’t make it but it went ok, I showed the information to our vet on the weaning of the Azthioprine(,as you know he wanted us to stop it when I had run out of them without the weaning?)thankfully Sheen had sent me loads of info on it, which I took with me and asked him to take a look at, he actually looked at a few paragraphs , and I said to him I wanted to do it that way!He was fine said it is ok! so that’s good news, this vet is more open to suggestions which is great,he examind Snoopy and said everything seemed fine ,he thought he looked better than last time and his weight had gone up slightly, and how pink he is! he did mention mayby in future all being well when Snoopy is fully recovered, that he might benefit from hydrotherapy, as his back end is very bony and his always had a bad leg with a slight limp so there is muscle wastage there. Vally when we first got Snoopy about 4 yrs ago he was having vit b 12 injections as he was suffering from loose stools ,they did help, and hes poo went back to normal hes a had a sensitive tum though all along, I think you might be right the direah might have been side effects of drugs ,also Snoopy is always hungry and whenhe goes for his walk he trys to eat things on the floor through his nozzle!if he can find it, mainly cat poo! sorry to be graphic again.i have to keep a close eye on him and pull himaway, At least the direh has stopped now thanks to Tylan xxxx hope all your doggies are well xxxxx love Jill and Snoopy xxxxxx
