Hi all, thankyou for advice, The vet has sent blood test results in e mail to hubby I will get him to e mail them to you Sheen if that’s ok. The vet spoke to me this afternoon and said to lower the predonisilone by 5mg now that Snoopys blood is42%, im not sure how long its been that for, as last vet appt was 8 feb . Im thinking of e mailing the advice you have given me about weaning to soon to the vet, and ask if he will do it the way you have said?im pleased with Snoopys blood level but there is no way I want him to relapse.I feel like im on that rollercoaster again, Snoopy has been having milk thistle past 2 days now and is fine with it, will be keeping him on it.Thankyou for sending the Tylon Sheena, please let me at least pay your postage?many thanks, love and hugs jill and Snoopy xxx
sorry forgot to add , the vet also said Snoopys blood cells are not being attacked now, and to keep Snoopy on the lower dose for a month and then go back to see him?
Hi Jill
I’m not at all happy about reducing yet after looking at the previous tests –
Snoopy was way low on the 5th Feb, then came up to 24 on the 10th Feb, so
he has not been stable for anywhere near a month or even 3 weeks. I think
you should
leave the reduction for another 2 weeks personally, and get a check up PCV
the day before you reduce. The vet’s suggested 20mg am & 20mg pm is fine
to do then, as it is a percentage reduction of 20%. This means you will have to
get some more pred & insist on doing it this way, not as your vet says – are
you OK with that? I would also like everyone else to give an opinion, Jill. There
is only one thing that would change my opinion on this – if there is something
on the blood test that gives a clinical reason for a faster reduction, so it would
be great for us to see the tests as soon as you can send them.
So hang fire – don’t start any reductions yet.

Thanks again Sheena , I have not started any reduction on Snoopys predonisilone, I would like to go with what you have suggested and wait 2 more weeks,im not taking any chances, i will have to e mail vet in morning and just say that I would rather do it this way and see what he says? I have managed to e mail you Snoopys blood test results .I hope you have received them ok xxx love and hugs to you and your doggies Jill and Snoopy xx
Thankyou, I will e mail my vet and ask if I can leave SNOOPYS meds the same at the moment for a couple weeks, then have bloods checked. Then mayby start to wean .So glad I got you guys to ask , many thanks, hoping all your doggies are well xxxxx love Jill and Snoopy xxxx
Yes Snoopy should have been starved for an accurate lipase test. Don’t worry about it. All of us have been fooled by this because our vets didn’t explain you need to starve them for at least 8 hours to get accurate results for an amylase, lipase or canine pancreatitis test. Actually, you have cheered me up – if you didn’t starve him, it’s EXTREMELY unlikely he has pancreatitis, which is what we thought anyway – it’s just “food” (fats) being processed & sent around the blood stream skew the results. I can assure you that myself, Linda, Brigitte & several others have been “caught” like this by not starving – how could you know if your vet didn’t say?
If your vet wants to do a further test, make sure you starve first. In house, he can do a starved amylase/lipase test, or if you are still worried, he can do the cPL test from Idexx Laboratories.
