Hi Jill, I would totally go with Sheena’s suggestion to have Snoopy checked for pancreatitis. It’s important to get that ruled out, particularly as azathioprine can bring it on.
I was also going to mention the Tylan powder. Bingo has used this and it worked very quickly. Dr Jean Dodds has recommended it to a few of us and it’s safe for our AIHA dogs. There’s information about it on the resources page

Hi Jill, Snoopy is sounding better, so that’s great.
With the pumpkin, make sure it’s pure pumpkin and NOT pie pumpkin. Pie pumpkin contains other ingredients. I can’t get canned pumpkin in Australia either, so I just buy a piece of pumpkin, cut it up and steam it until it’s soft.
The Tylan powder, is available from Amazon USA, but they don’t ship it to Australia, so you may have the same problem. I have found it at a pharmacy here though and I make up capsules of it myself. It’s supposedly a very bitter powder, so if you do start using it, don’t try adding it to Snoopy’s food, you’ll need to make up some capsules. We can work that out if you do get it.

Hiya Jill
This is so good to hear. I have trouble getting pumpkin out of season here too, so you can order from amazon uk. Or I buy a big one, steam it & freeze it in ice trays! So I always have a supply in the house just in case. You can also use sweet potato – peel them & steam them & you can freeze them too.
Iam putting the links below for you so it doesn’t mess up the text here.
Also the Tylan Powder can be sent by amazon.com – they have started delivering to europe now (I got some delivered to a friend in the UK the order day) so you easily obtain it. You need to follow the instructions on the sibo link on how to make up capsules. It tastes ABSOLUTELY VILE!!!!!! I thought I’d taste a bit to see just how bad it is – and I can verify it’s the most digusting thing I’ve ever tasted.
Lots of love & hugs

I think Snoopy will be about the same as Worzel by weight (he is 23kg) so his dose was an eighth of a teaspoonful twice a day. It is very “forgiving”, so you don’t need to be highly accurate. Give this dose for at least a month, then drop the dose to half.
Hi all, thankyou for the information, Snoopy is doing well, no more direh. Cant wait till vets on Monday( had to change day as vet not on in evening Friday,) I want to see if snoopys blood levels have come up, have the liver test and pancreatus test, ask about milk thistle and Tylon powder? I always ask vet first in case im doing the wrong thing. we have ordered pumpkin online but I must checkif its right one , if its not will order it from were you have saidSheena. Was the pumkin to help with the direh? as this has stopped now? I have asked vet before about milk thistle , mayby now we are having liver test he might say go ahead with it depending on results? Hope you and your doggies are all doing well love jill xxx
Hi Jill,
I am so glad to hear Snoopy is doing better and has no diarrhea anymore. That is definitely a big plus as he will also feel much better. Of course you should always ask the vet before you add something. If you look at the pumpkin you ordered it should not contain anything else but pumpkin. I don’t see a reason not to add that even if Snoopy has no more diarrhea. Pumpkin is a great supplement for any dog. It can help with diarrhea or with constipation. It has a lot of fiber but also sugar, so too much is not good. I would start with a tea spoon and work it up to a table spoon. I think that the milk thistle is a must for any dog on high doses of prednisone, no matter what the liver values. even better would be if besides the milk thistle you would give Snoopy denamarin/Sam-E. The liver is very stressed with the drugs Snoopy is on and these supplements will help it so much. I would do this rather sooner than later. If you can not see the vet on Friday, maybe you can call today and ask about this. The longer you wait the more damage the liver has to deal with.
Best wishes,
Brigitte
Hi Jill
Good news on the diarrhoea stopping – but get the 100% pure pumpkin anyway. How long is Snoopy on the metronidazole for?
Brigitte was the first person to answer my pleas for help when Worzel was diagnosed. She is very knowledgeable & is giving you great advice on the pumpkin & the liver enzymes. Brigitte says, livers need help right NOW, so prevention is vital, rather than wait until Snoopy has a problem – milk thistle & Sam-e or Denamarin. Please don’t hesitate. I mentioned I added these things without even asking the specialist & he was very happy I had. A nice open minded internist! I thank the ladies on here for persuading me it was the right thing to do – I promise it worked for Worzel.
Do you need a list of things for your vet on Monday? Let me know & I’ll send you something by e-mail if that would help.
Love & hugs
