- Slaton – IMHA slow to respond
All – thanks for the information. I’m defnitely looking towards the direction of a consultation with Dr. Dodds.
What are some recommendations for low fat foods? I’ve considered making her food previously; however, was worried she would not get balanced & complete nutrition so we’ve tried to stick to the higher quality dry foods.
In regards to probiotics – Slaton was on Purina Pro FortiFlora for 1 month while she was experience severe diarrhea and did well with this. You mention refrigerated… is this a must? I feel like Now Foods is one of the more trusted supplement brands and they produced this article in regards to probiotic stability – http://www.nowfoods.com/Quality/Do-Supplements-Work/088797.htm
Where is a good resource to get refrigerated probiotics?
We had the Bone Marrow biopsy completed about 6 weeks ago. The results from pathologist are in pages 11-14 of this link – https://www.dropbox.com/s/016w7zrayergs40/Slaton-PVSEC-Reports-20150811.pdf?dl=0
Regarding infections, she recently was treated for a UTI (e-coli) with two antibiotics as the first (Baytril (Enrofloxacin)) didn’t get rid of it so she was then moved onto Zeniquin which worked. A urine culture was just completed last week.
How do the consultation with Dr. Dodds work? I am ready to try one but want to make sure I am prepared. Should I get all my records from both the local vet and PVSEC? Will she want blood sent her way first?
Can she do Thyroid and B12?
Hi Matt
When you fill in the initial consultation request here
https://labordatenbank.com/cake/hemopet/onlineorders/hemopet_add
you can attach the blood tests – you can’t attach a lot on the initial consultation I’m afraid, so you could try your Drop Box in the message itself. List all the medications fully with a concise explanation of what’s happened – you will be able to expand on the info at a later date by e-mail.
After you have sent the consultation request, Dr Dodds will send you an initial contact mail – brief & with the treatment protocols attached. She is not “wordy” – she’s straight to the point, but very compassionate too. She is always happy to work with other vets, so you can ask your vet to consult with her (mine was happy to do that) or you can get all the info from your vets & send it to her yourself. I hope your vet will be prepared to work with her – it makes life so much easier!
The blood tests you have are informative for her for now, but YES – Hemopet can do all the required testing if you want them to

All these links can be found here on this website – go to Second Chance Resources & click on the drop down box on Hemopet Resources.
I would certainly recommend using them for the thyroid panel:
http://www.hemopet.org/hemolife-diagnostics/veterinary-thyroid-testing.html
The B12 needs testing too – you can maybe do that locally – if not they can do it at Hemopet.
Dr Dodds can also advise you on diet – that is another one of her areas of expertise:

For Slaton, I would try the liver & GI tract cleansing diet.
How does the consult with Dr. Doffs work? Do we actually speak with her or is it just the online form with report response via email? I feel like our journey is way too complicated for an online form and email report.
Matt, Dr Dodds usually responds fairly quickly by email. As Sheena said, she is not “wordy” so don’t be suprised by a simple response and she will most likely attach her protocol to treatment. Any questions about her response, you can respond to her email and she’ll get back to you again.
I found the easiest way to get the reports to her was to scan everything into 1 attachment. As Bingo is also on a lot of supplements, as well as meds, I included a list in that scan of his meds/supplements.
Another way is you could have your vet do a consult with her.
