Vally, if there is a way to start at 8:30 AM and end around 3AM with pilling that would be nice.
There is always someone around to help me at those times. She’s nearly 80lbs and doesn’t always want to take her pills!
Hi Alyssa,
I’m emailing you a chart, which I’ve set out like this:
8.30am Famotidine
9.00 am Food with pred, Aza, aspirin
11.00 am Sucralfate
1.00 pm Thyroid med
3.00 – 5.00 pm food
7.00pm – Sucralfate
9.30 – Famotidine (I’ve moved this from after the food to before the food
10.00 – Food with pred
12.00 midnight (never sure if this is am/pm) Thyroid med
2.00 am Sucralfate
The Famotidine can be given 1/2 hour before food so that helps squeeze your times up a big.
If anyone sees a problem with this, let me know.,
Okay another try:
8.30 am Famotidine
10.30 am Food with pred, Aza, aspirin
12.30 pm Sucralfate
2.30 pm Thyroid med
3.30-5.00 pm food (cheated, I’ve given you less time to feed)
7.00 pm – Sucralfate
9.00 pm – Food with pred
11.00 pm – Famotidine
1.00 am – Thyroid med
3.00 am Sucralfate
Again folks, can anyone see a problem?
Hi Alyssa
Diarrhoea is such a nightmare – I really feel for you. It does dound like the problem is at the lower end of the GI tract, so no need to panic, just as your vet says. Hoping the imodium will help a lot.
I found the pumpkin & sweet potato (Worzel will NOT eat rice – just spits it all over the floor!) helped a lot – better than anything else we tried. He will not eat chicken – Dr Dodds says many dogs will not tolerate chicken (it’s a “hot” food in Chinese medicine apparently) so we gave him turkey instead. When dogs are going through the haemolysis stage (red cell destruction) it’s best to avoid red meat like beef if you possibly can as you are giving them more red cell products to deal with & it can overload the system. It’s fine to reintroduce it when that stage is over. BUT if she won’t eat anything, I’d rather she ate SOMETHING like mince as she must eat. It’s such a quandry! Lamb is also OK. Lean of course. Also white fish, boiled, is really good. I always remember Brigitte saying soupy meals were good – it worked for Worzel – then they get water as well. There was a time when he would eat absolutely nothing & we resorted to smelly Toulouse sausages which I’m sure are not good for them – but he ate something & that started him on the path to eating again.
Vally’s chart looks great – she’s such a huge help to us all.
So really avoid anything non-doggy food for now – especially peanut butter as it often contains a sweetener called Xylitol which is TOXIC to dogs – you could try the fish & turkey, plus boiled green beans (chop up small) with pumpkin &/or sweet potato if she’ll eat them! Again, hoping the imodium will help a lot. Come os Sassy girl! Eat something for your Mum.
Love Sheena xxxxx
Thank youVally! I bought a pill box yesterday.. does anyone know where I can get one that contains 9 slots for a single day? the most I found was 4. So I needed to get 2. Juggling the pills is much harder this time. I will say she’s much easier to pill this time though. If I can’t get it in her with food we will go through the routine, and I’ve found squirting water into her mouth after holding it shut makes her swallow and it’s over quick. No more 30 minute ordeals, thank god.
Sassy still hasn’t pooped since 3pm yesterday. Her pee continues to be yellow and not orange. She has a good appitite and is now taking rice, after I cooked the rice in pure chicken broth.
Anyway there is my morning update. She had a good night. The scary pred breathing is starting. But she’s responsive, she wagged her tail when she saw my dad this morning (first time in 3 days). Drinking plenty of water, and ate a few small meals of chicken and rice. Her gums are pink. We’re going to check her levels sometime today so I’m absolutely sick with anxiety but the signs are all good… I’m praying. Actually scared to leave this update in case her results are bad or I jinx it or something.
