- Sadie – Relapse….again.
Hiya Linda
Yayyyyyyy – home at last – Sadie Girl, you are such an amazing little lady – keep on fighting this evil thing. I’m so pleased things are looking much better – good luck on the next PCV hope you both get some much deserved sleep & rest.
Love & the biggest possible hugs

Hi all. Thank you for your well wishes and loving thoughts. I tell fur parents almost daily that AIHA/IMHA is a roller coaster – and to hang in there. I can tell you first hand, it is definitely a roller coaster and we are hanging in. I keep saying, this disease CAN be beat. It CAN and we will beat it, again.
In 2 1/2 years, onset and two other relapses, her PCV has never gone below 21%, and all three times she collapsed. Her other two relapses were rallied by prednisone alone in a short time period.
Not this time. Sadie went to Blue Pearl on Monday, July 13th in the wee hours of the morning with a PCV of 13%. She was immediately put on a loading dose of Atopica of 75mg daily and 45mg of prednisone daily. She was put on two antibiotics, Baytril and Minocycline. She is on Plavix (anti clotting), Prilosec (tummy), Denamarin and Ursodiol (both for liver). She received two packed red blood cell transfusions.
In the ICU and after the second transfusion, Sadie rallied to 30% on Wednesday night and by Wednesday night, dropped to 25%. Through the night, she dropped again to 24% and by mid-day Thurseday, was maintaining the 24%. They said Sadie could come home. Since home on Thursday, Sadie has dropped her PCV by one lousy point every day: 24%, 23%, and yesterday, 22%. Hummmm….
And for the first time, she is NOT wanting to take any medication at all, spitting it out AND she gets very perturbed with me for insisting. But somehow, the meds go down and for a few minutes she is not my best friend. Then, she’s over it, and we’re buddies again. :)
Besides the onset of AIHA in March of 2013, Sadie has now had three relapses. Today, I am so very thankful to be able to look at her precious face and since Thursday, to have her home with me.
Through this ordeal and dealing with the acute, ICU vets and their ‘usual protocol’ – I am again challenged to be heard. Please, I can tell you from my recent own experience, stand up for your pup and insist being listened to and considered. In the 2 1/2 of Sadie’s AIHA, I am again finding these (incredible, smart and knowledgeable, but leary) educated vets are having a hard time stepping out of their ‘protocol’ box. Stand your ground.
I will too.
We go for another PCV in a few hours, just to be safe. I will definitely let you know – as soon as back from vet and getting the PCV. Upward and onward!
Love and hugs,
Linda and Sadie
Sending positive thoughts your way for a raised PCV!
Keep fighting Sadie!!!

Hi again. We’re back from vet. Her PCV is HOLDING at 22. And not dropping which is good. We’ll do another tomorrow. Poor baby has been stuck so much in the last week.
I have never crated Sadie, but my greyhound friends are bringing a greyhound size (large) crate over so I if I need to leave, she’ll be safe. Plus, she won’t (hopefully) get excited with passerbys.
I will keep you all posted. Again, thank you for your constant love, advice and encouragement. You all give me strength and in turn, Sadie too. We’re going to make it, by golly!!
Much love and huge hugs,
Linda and Sadie
Hi Linda
Good news for sure – well done, Sadie Girl! I am so happy she’s stable. Phew – you must be relieved. As we always say on here, those drugs don’t work overnight, which is very annoying as patience is hard to find at these times! I think keeping her a bit quieter might be a great idea too – some dogs love their crates, so she’ll be nice & comfy in there.
We’ve all been thinking about you constantly. I have no doubt that you will stand your ground with the vets – you always have fought like crazy for her – & Sadie will soon be on the up & up with her PCV.
Sending all our love, doggie kisses & huge hugs

PS love to the fellow greyhound visitors from my two
Hey Linda and Sadie
Well done little Sadie for holding that PCV! Clever girl. I’m sorry you are having trouble with the protocol brigade. I remember it well, and we come across it so much don’t we?
I’m so happy she is home with you and hanging in, but so sorry you’ve had this terrible fright. Keep on fighting the good fight, Linda and Sadie.
All our love,
Mary and Mable x
Thanks so much. She’s going to make it. I will have to be so cautious in the future. Maybe not so much traveling., my sweet co-pilot. We’ll see. I wish I knew if it was the spraying. Seems very likely as the stress of travel has not bothered her before. And for it to haves twice in the huge metropolis of Valdosta, GA?!?
I could not find the link to donate to Wendy and Frsnk, but (as usual) I’m on my phone – site is different. Sheena, could you imbed the link in a post? Sadie would very much like to donate. 🌞
Love to all, Linda
