- Sadie – Relapse….again.
Ha!!! That’s too cute Patrice – thanks for putting that silly pic up. Yes, she is our attack dog, can’t you tell?!? And she has the very important job of wine guarding! Of course, you’ll notice, several bottles on the bottom row are missing….Sadie is denying partaking, but I have some doubt. This pose did give her away. ❤️
Forgive me for being away. Company and regrouping. You all know how it goes. I swear, I’m not following in Sadie’s consumption footsteps!!! Just super busy.
So, update: Sadie’s PCV this morning is 38!!! She’s such a little fighter and so proud of her. 😊
We do have some issues with loosing control of her bladder. She wet herself yesterday and has several times this past week. At night, she’s out once or twice. Leaking badly. I had diapers from the grand children and sorry, but they have been on her for the last two nights. She could care. She looks ridiculous in Elmo pampers, but it has worked and it’s keeping her AND us dry. She is wet by 4AM, but our bed is dry (thank goodness for waterproof mattress protectors too!). So, around 3AM or 4AM, it’s a diaper change, outside to go more tee tee and back to sleep for a few hours. Yes, I have circles under my eyes. Sadie? She naps in the morning AFTER breakfast. No circles.
So, we did a urine test, culture and sensitivity test on Thursday AND fasting full panel blood work this morning with the PCV. It will be days before we get the results, but we went ahead and started her on Doxycycline after her test Thursday night. We’ll see what the results are on the urine test, but we’re thinking we did not knock out the UTI before and it’s back. She’ll be on doxycycline for three weeks, if tests are positive for recurring UTI.
She is also quivering in her hind quarters very badly. This is most likely the drugs, but actually, she was starting this just prior to relapse, although, worse now. She can’t stand for very long, could care about being friendly with other dogs (just leave me alone, baugh humbug!) and when sitting, from legs go out from under her. Oh the joys of AIHA and the horrible, necessary-life-saving drugs. 😏
But, the obvious good news is – her numbers are up enough to start reducing. As Sheena and Vally have so graciously suggested (thank you my lovely, dear friends), we will reduce the prednisone first this time and keep her on the current Atopica dose. I did lower the Atopica from the loading dose of 75mg daily to 50mg daily. And did lower the prednisone from the loading dose of 45mg daily to 40mg daily.
She has lost 10 pounds in the last few months, from 42 to 32 this morning. This relapse has taken a toll. But she’s a fighter and going to make it. That’s the plan.
Love to all and your precious pups,
Linda and guard-dog, doing well, Sadie
I think you should paint some white circles under her eyes, that’s only fair.
I’m sorry you’re going through so much, but she’s getting there. Well she’s just passed the “Go” mark so she can collect $200. With the pred to come down now, the incontinence issues will get better.
The quivering, you’ve always mentioned Sadie was creaky before, Bingo’s back legs tremble a lot. Often after he’s been walking. I notice it often in the park when we’re walking and when he stops, his legs will tremor. I think that’s possibly weak back leg muscles. With Sadie back up on the higher pred doses, I’m sure that’s probably making it worse. Once Sadie’s pred comes back down, we’ll have to work out a work-out for both Sadie and Bingo to strengthen up those legs.
Love Vally & Bingo

She really does look beautiful – & not a grey hair! The plan is good, Linda, & she will soon be less wobbly with the pred reduction. It’s just heartbreaking to see them like this & you have to keep remembering it will get better & better the lower the pred dose is. I really feel for you, dear friend.
I have started Worzel on Traumeel (T-relief) on the recommendation of our wonderful Dr Dodds. He has been stiff, creaky & sore a the back end. As we can’t use the usual drugs for our pups, I have to try an alternative which is safe & will relieve the pain. I will keep you posted on how he’s getting on. I might be speaking too soon (as Vally says, I am whispering this!) but he is much more active & happy after only a few days on it. Keep you fingers crossed – this could be a good idea for Sadie & Bingo.
The boys are still madly in love with Miss Sadie – they both said how great she looks – did I detect a whiff of lavender from that photo?
Love & huge hugs from all of us as always

Thanks Vally and Sheena. What would we ever do without you?!? Yes, I think it’s only fair too, chalk some white in her! Too funny, Vally! And Sheena, I look forward to hear if the Traumeel works! This might just help Sadie and Bingo too! How wonderful would that be?!?!! 😊
I wanted to share with you all, Sheena and Vally know already know, that we are weaning the prednisone with Sadie. With her PCV being 38%, Dr. Dodds said she is now on too high of a dose, which was 40mg’s daily. We lowered (the traditional 25%) to 30mg’s daily, will give 20mg in the am and 10mg in the pm. I started last night. The Atopica will stay the same, 50mg daily (I already lowered the loading dose of 75mg last week, because her PCV was in the mid-30%).
Alas, a dry diaper last night. Probably not related to the reduction (yet) but dry was good. This has been the only time I have been happy she has no tail (idiot back yard breeder cut it to a itty bitty nub), because the diaper does not bother her at all. ☺️ She just lies down and goes to sleep. Good pup.
I ordered a cloth, washable diaper for her, in teal, but bless Patrices’ pea pickin heart, she found them in bright pink. Yep, ordering them today. Thanks Patrice! We’ll save The Elmo pampers for the grand children!! 😉
So, here we go. Will keep you posted.
Love to you all,
Linda and Sadie
Photos needed please! Worzel thinks teal would suit her, Ollie prefers pink. A dry night is cheery news – let’s hope she’s on the mend now. Maybe a few days of antibiotics has already helped – & that pred reduction will make a difference very soon too.
Love as always

Urinalysis and culture is back (sent report to you both, Sheena and Vally). Stopping the doxycycline. She just had an accident. We went outside and she played in the hose and I washed her with a bit of her shampoo. Here’s hoping the prednisone helps . ☺️
I will take a pic, but they won’t be here until next week, unfortunately. I’m hoping this is better by then. 😜
Love to all, Linda and au de Lavender
