- Routine parasite treatment?
Hi Linda
I’m so sorry to hear that Sadie is having problems. Just as you hit the one year mark. Will reply on your post, but definitely do keep on with those positive thoughts. So, so important.
It would be really helpful if you wouldn’t mind asking your daughter about what she uses with her cat, if that’s ok? Mable has such a strong reaction to the Stronghold I can’t help wondering if it’s the best thing (it’s the only time she’s ever hissed at me!) Good on your daughter and her husband for helping out at the local shelter. I looked into helping out with the cats locally after Molly died, but as yet have done no more about it. The shelters do such a wonderful job and I know they need all the help they can get.
Will head on over to see what’s happening with Sadie now….
Thanks again,
M & M x
Well I called in at the vet last week and had a chat with the last vet who saw Mable. He felt that she does need to be treated prophylactically, as she is an outdoor cat who has suffered with fleas in the past. So, he recommended a new tablet called Comfortis (I believe this has been available for dogs for some time). We decided to give it a go, although it took me a week to pluck up the courage to give it to her. Imagine my delight when, instead of having to chase her through the house with a spot-on, she ate the tablet happily. Unfortunately she vomited all over her bed a few hours later :( Apparently this is a common side effect. She seems ok today but I don’t think we’ll be using the Comfortis again. Back to the chasing by the looks of it. Ho hum.

Hi Mary. I just wanted to send a note to tell you that I’m thinking about you. I saw where you posted to Sheena that it has been four months since you lost your precious Molly. That little gal had the best life, having you as her fur mom and Mable as her sidekick. I know you miss her dearly.
I love the pic of Mable winking – how did you get her to do that?! Too cute.
Huge hugs and lots of love, Linda and Sadie
Hi Linda
Thank you for your lovely words. I do miss Molly dreadfully but Mable is a dream at making it a little bit easier. One strange thing I have noticed, is that Molly had white whiskers, and Mable has always had “peppered” whiskers. Until recently, when some of them are now white. It’s a silly thing but I call them her Mollywhiskers!
The wink was sadly not done to order! I just got lucky with the camera timing ;)
I hope you and Sadie are doing well today, and thank you again for your lovely post

Awe – but you caught it. I am not that fast. ;)
I love that, about the whiskers. And glad you have her to ease your heart. Amazing how that happens.
Sadie is good. I JUST came home with a bulky stick for her. She has not had one in a very
long time as she devours them in no time on this pred (ravonous!). That scared me. Prior to AIHA, one would last a month. She was SO excited (there is a pic on the forum somewhere with one that is as long as her – ate that right up!!)! So, when I gave it to her, she then took it upstairs, to hide. Her feet barely hit the steps – she almost flew, then back down with it, lying on the den rug, chewing it with her eyes literally rolling back she was so enjoying it so much. I called her to go out to tee-tee – she wouldn’t drop it so she took it out in her mouth, squatted and did her thing, never dropping it, then back into the den, bully stick STILL in her mouth, chump, chump – gone in no time. I had to take the last small piece away (afraid of chocking). She very reluctantly gave it up. She ate that bulky stick in 20 minutes!!! Crazy gal. ;)
Love and hugs to you and Mable,
Linda and Sadie
Hi Linda
I LOVE the story of Sadie and her stick! I just had a look and found the picture of her…..she did well to eat one of those in 20 mins!! The image of her going out to pee, stick in mouth, is brilliant! Aren’t they just so funny? But heck, it’s great to hear she enjoyed it so much. That’s what life is all about :)
It reminds me of a Cocker Spaniel I once knew, called Oscar. He was a lovely boy but you couldn’t leave anything on the floor or he’d steal it. His owner found one of her cardigans buried in the garden, and spotted her long lost umbrella poking out of the vegetable patch!
Love and hugs to you and Sadie,
M & M x
Linda, what is a bulky stick??? I too love the image of Sadie being so engrossed she had to take it with her to do her business. Probably scared you’d steal it and start gnawing on it.

Well – guess what – gee, a typo. It was supposed to be a ‘bully’ stick. And I dare not tell you what they really are. As a matter of fact, when I found out, I couldn’t buy them for the longest time. Catch my drift?
But Sadie loves them and they are part of the cow (bull, poor fella) and hence, digestible. When it gets to a small piece, much to her dismay, I take it away and throw it out. They can easily choke.
Sadie has never chewed on anything she wasn’t supposed to chew on (except for my favorite rag rug in front of the sink in the kitchen – it has bald spots). Maybe she doesn’t chew because I’ve always given her something she could chew on. Way too many toys! But I found these and they’re great. The ones I buy are from the US. Here’s a link:

Sadie can be very intense when she’s devouring her bulky stick. And she hadn’t had one in some time, so she was not keen on parting with it JUST to go outside to teetee. No way. ;). No time flat, that tasty morsel was down to a nub. One drawback, is that they are (believe it or not) very high in calories. But tubby Sadie could care. :)
