Hi all,
Quick update on Bean. She’s doing well so far, her pred has been reduced by 75%. Down to just one pill in the morning (from 2 in the AM, and 2 in PM). It’s been a long few months but she’s recovering well and her blood work results are only getting better with each reduction! We’ve also seen her become sooo active since we began tapering.
Once she’s off the prednisone, should the cyclo also be tapered off? Initially our vet said we could probably stop it cold turkey, then last week said that most likely we will also reduce it like the prednisone. And is there a certain amount of time we should wait before starting to taper the cyclo?
Also, any advice on when we should spay Bean? I know not until she’s off her medications, but should we wait longer? Or is it better to get it done ASAP?
We’ll be talking to the vet about all this once we reduce her pred again (most likely next week if CBC is good) but I just wanted some other opinions!
Cheers,
Nikki & Bean
Hi Nicole, and well done Bean, you Champion.
With the tapering, my specialist said it’s not the same as reducing prednisone, but at the same time, we did reduce it by going from daily to every second day, then about a month later every third day, and then he said I could stop it.
Me, being me, asked Dr Dodds about this and her answer was to reduce it to once a week for 2 weeks and then stop it, and so that’s what I did.
Bingo was a bit different though, in that he, having relapsed twice, had to stay on a small dose of prednisone for life.
About the spaying, that came up in some other posts. I’ll find the links for you.
