I like the GLM suggestion too. As a matter of fact, Vally, you suggested it long ago for Sadie and was too scared to try anything ‘extra’ at that time. I will now though, as she’s not creaking as badly, but still creaking. I don’t know if she’s in pain, but it pains me to see her hop up and creak! GLM it is. And will try the gelatin and turmeric too. I remember taking the Knox gelatin tabs years ago and my fingernails looks fabulous!
About the Reiki and Acupuncture – I do believe in both. The new holistic vet, same place where I take Sadie, specializes in Reiki and at a reasonable price. I plan to have her try with Sadie, but currently, she is out on maternity leave. Sadie had the acupuncture with the other “rather expensive – no, really expensive” holistic vet (she was awesome, I just couldn’t afford her!). I could not swear there was a difference, but I think there was a strong possibility that there was. But it was over $500.00 each time I took her and I just couldn’t go anymore. She only went twice. Too bad.
She put Sadie on some Chinese herbs too. I kept her on a few for a while, most I stopped almost immediately. But I’ve stopped all now – it scares me too, putting them on too many ‘additives’ no matter how holistic, natural. Actually, the PetTinic was the one supplement that seemed to do the most good, and it’s by no means a holistic supplement! She is still on that one and I plan to keep her on it. It works, and at this point, I’m not rocking the boat (Sheena) either! But the GLM’s, gelatin and turmeric (I have read it’s great) sound good. Sadie will definitely start with the GLM’s soon, for sure. I need to order it and get her going. So, let’s plan to check in here with any and all improvements! :)
I sure hope this works for Ollie and Sadie as it has for Mr. Well Oiled Bingo (hugs to you, Mr. Bingo). Thanks for the reminder, Vally.
Ollie, stay well and give your brother, Worzel, a huge hug from Sadie and me.
xoxo Linda
Linda, I’ve just read NOT TO USE TURMERIC WITH ASPIRIN. Sadie still takes aspirin doesn’t she? Bingo doesn’t. I believe it’s a minimal risk but still, probably better not to use. It can increase the effect of the aspirin, which could in turn cause bleeding. DON’T USE.
Also because I know Sadie has a sensitive tummy, don’t do a loading dose of GLM, maybe just start with 1 a day. GLM can cause diarrhea (a bit like fish oil) if they are taking too much, so maybe start with 1 a day. The gelatin has no side effects.
Love Vally & Bingo
Vally – you’re right – in Indian medicine, it is sometimes used as a blood thinner. I was looking at some ideas for my boring gastric reflux & was surprised to read of the vast range of medicinal properties of the many Indian spices. I rest my case – supplements & plants are drugs!!!! But I will still be using them of course as most things are beneficial, not detrimental. Haven’t had the GLM & gelatin delivery yet – should arrive tomorrow.
Just shows, need to check and check and check. A few times, I have done some reading, ordered something on line, for example, chlorophyll. Looked everyone for an unflavoured one, bought it, in the meantime, read that it works against cyclosporine. Paid a fortune for it and tossed it when I got it.
Check, check, check.
Fingers and paws crossed that the GLM and gelatine work wonders for Ollie. Bingo says the GLM is yummy.
Vally.
Gosh, you just wouldn’t think it would you? Turmeric seems like such an innocuous thing, but then I suppose some of these medications, especially the immunosuppressants, do interact with so many things.
Linda – interesting to hear about your holistic vet, and I’ll be really interested to hear how Sadie gets on with her Reiki.
I hope Ollie and Sadie enjoy their GLM. It’s making me crave a bowl of moules mariniere. I had a quick look and there are some studies with some encouraging results for use of GLM in humans with arthritis (Osteo rather than rheumatoid, from what I recall, but I can check). I only skimmed them but the results seemed positive. Thanks Vally for telling us about this. I’d never heard of it.

Mary, the GLM are great for people. I have put dad (turned 91 on Thursday) on them as he was having difficulty walking as his knees were giving him grief. They are great for knees and within about 2 weeks he even admitted that MAYBE they were doing something. He never likes to admit he’s feeling good.
Dad still takes 2 x 500mg daily. I also take them for back issues, except I only take 1 a day (used to take 2 a day, but it got too expensive at one stage and I figured Bingo needed them more -sigh).
I also recommended them to an older friend of mine who was having physio because her knees were giving her grief and she was in a lot of pain. She had been having physio for a while but said it wasn’t really helping. I told her about the GLM and, because she has some sort of leukemia, I told her to make sure she spoke to her dr about them. He okayed them and she started taking them. She says she’s convinced that the GLM have done wonders. Her knees are a lot better and said she noticed a difference in that they were less painful within a week.
I’m not taking a commission for them :) I have just been really impressed with the way they have helped some people and dogs around. Pregnant and breast feeding woman should not use them. Side effects can be diarrhear.

Hi Vally
Thanks for the information. I’m really impressed too! I’d never heard of them but it sounds like they are really useful for people and dogs alike. Apparently cats can use them too although I haven’t found anything “official” to say this. Are they also useful in rheumatoid arthritis, or is it mainly the osteo they are used in?

Sheena – have they arrived yet?
