Hi Susan, wasn’t sure what you meant by trifled a?(sp?
Did you mean trifexis or nexgard? Trifexis has raised a lot of flags in that some dogs, I believe, have died from it. The side effects listed for nexgard “include vomiting, dry/flaky skin, diarrhea, lethargy, and lack of appetite. The safe use of NexGard in pregnant, breeding or lactating dogs has not been evaluated. Use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures”.
I, personally don’t use any chemical flea medication on Bingo. We had a huge problem last year with fleas, but I would just comb them out every day. I have a flea trap at home (which works on a light system at night) and I also sprayed “Vets Best” on him before going for walks. The vets best is made from peppermint oil and clove extract.
How is your girl going now?
Regards, Vally & Bingo
Hi Susan
After a lot of contemplating, I stick to Frontline Combo because it kills the eggs as well as the fleas. Worzel sometimes catches fleas, probably from our adorable little hedgehogs here, and it works well for him. I decided the NexGard is too risky & won’t use it. Hope this helps!

Just some F Y I.
I have a five year old Bull Mastiff and after giving him the NexGard around
3 weeks he started to have seizures, now don’t get me wrong I have
no proof of this but, I know my dog well, and the NexGard was the only thing I could point at. Since Drago had his first seizure he has had approx 20 more over a 4
month period I did stop the NexGard and Drago was diagnosed with epilepsy he is now on meds and he still has a seizure every 2 weeks (still in the trial and error stage) and now he has to adjust to the meds, so he can barely stand up because he is so high. :( Im now giving him a all natural diet and I have high hopes.
Thanks Kirk
Hi Kirk and thanks for posting. I have no doubts you know your dog better than anyone.
My boy used to have seizures years ago and I am absolutely convinced they were due to his having been vaccinated about a month before the first seizure. The vet said no, it was too far back, but I am convinced. He has never been vaccinated since. His weren’t very regular and not very severe, but I know the terror of when it happens and the feeling of hopelessness.
Has Drago’s thyroid been tested? Low thyroid can result in seizures and a bazillion other problems. Your vet can arrange this but truly, the best place to get this tested is with

I believe it’s the only lab in the USA that does age and breed specific testing, therefore it’s much more accurate.
I also switched Bingo to a raw diet back then and pretty much stayed on it.
Have you tried coconut oil? Must be raw virgin unrefined coconut oil. Check the amount, but its something like 1 teaspoon to every 10 pounds per day. I split the dose in two.
The very very best of luck with Drago. I really hope you can get it sorted out and they stop for good.
My very best,
Vally & Bingo
Hi Kirk
I am really sorry to hear about poor Drago – this is really frightening for you to see & I hope he makes full recovery very soon. My Mum had a Bull Mastiff who used to go along with her hand in his mouth when they went for a walk – she didn’t need a lead! He was a big old softy.
Thank you for letting us all know about what’s happened to Drago – it’s really important to tell everyone about these things. NexGard can cross the blood brain / barrier in some breeds & can cause seizures. Other breeds don’t seem to have this problem. It’s certainly dangerous for dogs that have a history of seizures. After reading about it, I would not use this product for my dogs either – one of them is a cross breed & you never know.
Vally has given you some wonderful advice as she has personal experience with the worries of seizures. Can I recommend you look at this website:
http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-angels.com/
They have some great information on there & will answer personal questions. Dr Jean Dodds (who helps us with our AIHA/IMHA dogs) is an advisor on there too, so I have no hesitation in recommending you to contact them.
Please let us know how Drago is doing – we all care deeply about dogs (and cats too) regardless of what is wrong with them. Fingers crossed for you to get these seizures stopped very soon.
