Just lost the entire post to you. We’re you able to talk with Dr. Farmer? I called and texted you The number you needed. Please let me know what’s going on – hang in.
call or text. If I don’t answer, will call text right back soon. xo Linda
Hi Megan,
I’m so sorry to hear about Sophie and the angst you are feeling. My dog, Tilly, was hospitalized for a week before she was stable enough to come home and had brought her PCV up to the low 20s. She took prednisone and cyclosporine upon admission, got one blood transfusion then when she dropped further then was given a dose of human IVIG (at the low price of $1000 for about a teaspoon’s worth of med; so glad I had pet insurance already at that point) before she turned the corner and improved. She relapsed last December and we added mycophenolate to her previous drug regimen.
The timing with the holiday probably doesn’t help but I am hopeful a new, compassionate and collaborative vet will guide you and Sophie towards better health.
I don’t know what tomorrow will bring and have to accept Tilly won’t be with me forever but I try to enjoy the gift of the present and lots of kisses, cuddles and tummy rubs with my girl while she’s here. Wishing you and Sophie the same today.
Our 5 year old Maltese has had AIHA and (ITP)
The bruising is caused by ITP. You need to be gentle with Sophie because her insides can bleed. See this info. Our Internal Medicine Vet is Dr Finke at http://www.wheatridgeanimal.com She worked along with Dr Dodds advice.

I’m Rick, we started Nico’s treatment over a year ago and it is possible to recover from this disease. Do not lose your hope.
Hi Megan. Family back to their prespective homes and have the computer room back. I was researching vets in TX and found this:
http://www.cpvh.com/2011/07/24/autoimmune-hemolytic-anemia-aiha/
It is the website of Paws and Claws in Pearland, TX. I know, I know – it’s at least 3 1/2 hours away, BUT, maybe you could call them and ask if they know anyone (besides who you’re going to presently) that can work with you and Sophie? Their contact information is:
Paws and Claws:
2556 Broadway Street
Pearland, TX 77581
(281) 997-1426
Will text in a bit to be sure you see this post. It’s worth a call?
Love and hugs, Linda
Thank you all for checking on Sophie, I’m sorry I am just now responding, we’ve been out of town for Thanksgiving. Sophie is eating a little and then I am syringing baby food in her as well. She will eat a little dog food (she use to have home cooked meals but for some weird reason she would rather have dog food with organic extra virgin coconut oil on it). I know it’s the meds. They gave her a new med to see if it helps her eat (Metoclopram), for ulcers I believe.
I’m not sure why but it didn’t put my post at the end of the page like it normally does, just fyi. Oh and she hasn’t started the new meds (Metoclpram) yet.
Hi Megan, Yeah it’s all posting out of order – not sure what’s happened.
I’m glad she’s eating a bit. I think the rule is give her whatever she wants to eat for now.
How does she seem to you?
Regards, Vally & Bingo
