Hi Jen. Great to hear from you! I give Sadie Nortic Naturals (thanks Patrice!). She loves them and just chews it right up (what does Sadie NOT love!). She weighs 27 pounds and I give her one a day.
I do know that Dr. Dodds recommends krill oil. I have not used this yet, but plan on in the near future, sometime….she does so well on the Nortic Naturals that I don’t want to rock the boat. :)
Good luck at the vet! Let us know what he/she says and Dr. Dodds too.
Sending hugs and lots of love,
Linda and Sadie
Hi Jen,
Supplements in the US can be voluntarily evaluated for manufacturers by the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) which is a scientific nonprofit organization. You can look for their logo on products that they have evaluated for quality. I use Nature Made products for myself and my dogs. You can copy and paste this link to see all Nature Made USP evaluated products. These are voluntary tests, though the FDA requires companies to ensure that they would be able to present evidence that they have had their products tested if challenged.

Linda,
I tried krill oil with my dogs, because they are smaller capsules and easier to dose. BJ’S carries a well known brand. Well they turned their nose up at the smell. Same thing with store brands of fish oil. They rolled them around on the floor and left them. Dogs have a very intense scent ability. I can’t say whether this means your dog would gobble them down or not!
Buy a small quantity to see!

Thanks for the supplement website Patrice, that is a great source to research the various supplements out there. I too have used nature made myself so figured I would try it for Mags but I was never really sure if it was a “quality” brand. Good to know. Perhaps I will try the Krill oil Lynda mentioned next time I order supplies. Mag’s vet will contact the manufacturer of Apoquel on Mon to see if any AIHA side effects have been reported. I really haven’t decided on giving it a try just yet bc the article Sheena noted says something regarding the chemical makeup can affect the immune system which worries me. I’m so paranoid not to trigger this awful disease. Perhaps it’s time to try Dr Dodd’s.
Maggie still has protein in her urine although it has gone done over past 6 months but stayed the same as last check in Feb. No real answers as to why it’s there but the vets don’t seem too concerned at this point. I added the fish oil to help out and try to be sure she doesn’t get too much phosphorous in her diet in case there is some kidney issues. Her urine also had high white cells so they are going to culture it and see if there is an infection. The vet also thinks her limp is a ligament strain which she said is not uncommon for dogs on long term steroids. We are to monitor it. She didn’t think it was Lyme again due to the long term treatment last time and her energy level. I’m keeping finger crossed about that.
Thanks everyone for all the excellent information. You are all so knowledgeable and helpful. I’ll always be grateful for the support and advice you all gave me during our long fight and recovery!!!
I’ll keep you all posted on the feedback I get regarding Apoquel and AIHA.
Best wishes!
