- Just when the waters seemed calm……Sadie's CBC
Hi all. Well, I feel a little less like an awful, neglectful mom about the lack of CBC for the last few months. Thanks for the congrats on the PCV – I’m really happy about that. Thrilled! Just stay there (or about) Sadie!!! Please.
Yes indeed – she seems to be feeling great. She’s been running after the squirrels They’re on the other side of the screen, so she can’t actually catch one. But she has tons of fun chasing them and acting tuff. :) And when I come home from being away for a bit, she runs circles around me, happy. We go directly outside to do her ‘thing’ and she runs there and back. So, I think that she’s feeling better from the weaning and getting on the lower doses of good/bad drugs.
The culprit to the high neutrophils and WBC’s, after much research AND other dogs in our area having allergy problems, could possibly be the (male) oak pollen that has been so abundant here in the last few weeks. I read about giving dogs honey, lemon juice and warm water and that helps their (her is just slight and not often) cough. Sadie will do this when we come from outside, sometimes recently. Also, some of the good ol FL grasses here play havoc on their systems in the spring, the spores and subsequent pollen. We have it all. Tis the season, so with check with vet on all fronts tomorrow – from reading, I think this may be some of not most of her problem.
Yes, Vally, I do think Sadie and Bingo conspired! They really do need to behave themselves! ;)
Will check in later. Have to take this little wiggle worm outside and feed the beasty animal – she’s starving (right….).
Love and hugs to all and again, thank you!!!
Linda and Sadie
Back. Thanks Brigitte on the kefir idea. I like that. I will get some today. Do you get the flavored? And Sheena – thanks too – will try a little pumpkin. I had tried it before and it actually gave her worse loose stools (awe, Sadie girl….), but now that she’s more stable and on less good/bad drugs, I’ll try it again. About a teaspoon first right?
She’s still on Pepcid for her tummy, but when she seems to have “extra” tummy problems, I giver her a bit of slippery elm powder in some plain, Greek yogurt. That usually works. I’ll do that again a few hours after her pills this morning.
Will keep you all posted. Love and hugs to all,
Linda and full tummy Sadie
Brigitte, the kefir has me interested too. Do you “make it” yourself? I’ve been looking on line and it seems you have to make it yourself and keep it going. Is that right?
Hi Vally and Linda,
No I have never done it myself. Yoghurt yes, Kefir no. I am sure it would be better, but the store bought has a lot of good stuff in it and they definitely like it better than a probiotic pill:) I buy the plain with 2% fat.
I told you that Enzo is doing the lip smacking in the morning some times. With the kefir of goat milk in the evening it has gotten much better. he is on raw, very good quality food, so I have started to cook his morning meal. No bones in that! I also reduced his food by a bit and bingo! His crazy mother kept thinking he is too skinny, even for an athletic agility dog:) while all the time he was just not hungry. It became a vicious circle. Now he is just fine. But you can imagine how my heart sank when he did not eat properly, I had a flash back to how it started with Kahlu. Enzo has lots of energy and always checks out good at the vet:)
Wishing you all a great weekend,
Brigitte & the poodle boys
That is kefir OR goat milk. I get kefir from regular milk. I guess I could try the goat kefir next time:)
That is awesome. I will do that for sure, the kefir, although I don’t know that I’ve seen the ‘goat’ version, but will look. It’s worth a try. She already gets the (Greek) yogurt with a little bit of slippery elm, so this would be even better. I don’t like the probiotics either, pill, liquid or powder. Sadie’s tummy does not tolerate it, no matter the brand or how much I use.
I used to make my own yogurt all the time. My former husband was Lebanese and his mother taught me, it’s call laban. I would always start with a culture from the last batch, but you can use plain Greek yogurt too. I can send my receipe for anyone that wants it. The longer you let it set (in a airtight container, in a cool oven, with a towel around it – old world), the more sour it gets. It’s wonderful for humans and dogs! Ha.
Sadie had her CBC today. We’ll see. Her in-house PCV was 47. She was a little anxious, because it was 8:30AM and she had not eaten. Poor, poor Sadie. She’s defiantly food driven. I don’t know that she really loves me – it’s that she is always (still) ravenous and I am the one that feeds her! I think that the REAL reason she does not leave my side. Food. ;)
She has settled down on the lip smacking today. So weird. But I kept her in yesterday, except to go out and do her business (no walk, feel bad), due to the high pollen – and I think it really may be that the pollen is really getting to her. Like I said, it’s massive this year.
Talk soon. Love to all, Linda and Sadie
I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen Kefir in the shops (it would be in the fridge right?), so I have ordered some “grains” now and I’ll be making some. Might get some goat milk to make it in too – that sound like the ideal FOR BINGO – not me. I like my yoghurts sweet and not yoghurt tasting at all.
Good luck on the test Linda.
I’m sure that Sadie loves you, well as sure as I am that Bingo loves me – 2nd only to his his food.
I’ve decided Bingo is going to be fasted for his next test too. Only thing it…the appointment is at 11.00. I don’t know how I’M going to survive. I’ve warned the vets they’ll hear him barking from there as they’re only 40 minutes away.
Lots of love, Vally & boy are you in for a surprise Bingo.
