- Hope in a panic
Hi Hope. I love that you lie down with Steve – I can visualize that and think it’s so sweet. Steve’s one lucky pup to have you.
I’m hoping his mouth continues to get better. I’m sorry the nylabone is a no-no now and any high quantity meat product chew is out. Poor Steve.
I also give Sadie cow hoofs to chew. If you get these, be sure to get the ones that don’t smell (very stinky). It’s actually one of the few things Sadie does not go through in 15 minutes! She doesn’t stay interested in them long though. Also, there are the deer antlers, but Sadie has never been a fan of those either and they’re expensive.
Prior to Sadie coming down with AIHA, she would covet her bully sticks – moving them around from upstairs to downstairs. And they would last for ages, having two or three around (she’d ‘hide’ them-well, she thought, they were actually in plain sight) the house at any given time. And then, all the sudden, she started devouring them instantly. That’s when I stopped giving them to her. I am hoping she’ll go back to savoring them and eating them slowly again.
I wanted to mention too, as Vally even mentioned about Bingo, Sadie’s PCV maintained at a lower number for a very long time, over a year. Then when I started to wean her, it started going up again AND amazingly, even higher than pre-AIHA (not by much, but higher). So, hang in there. Steve will most likely go higher in time. As long as he’s maintaining – that’s great. And as your vet says, this may his new normal. But I bet, in time, it climbs a bit. I know it can be scared though. Hang in there. Steve’s doing SO good!!! :)
Still away, but had to write. Love and hugs, Linda & Sadie
