- Hope in a panic
Ok I’m back again — the lumps are kind of full again. I’m wondering if this could be like an allergic reaction to a med? She had mentioned that today. She said to bring him in if they swelled up again but she’s seriously going to think we are insane. They were almost deflated at 5:00 today.. 6 hours later and they’re filled up. Any ideas?
Thanks all!

Hey vally!
I rang and his vet isn’t there tonight — they said to bring him in in the AM if they’re still swollen. I guess that’s the best we can do tonight? I hate to leave them just bc it makes me feel like a terrible mom but they’re not bothering him so I’ll just bring him back first thing in AM, I supp

Hope you’re the best mum/mom. They were better when you tried to get them checked. Seeing them go up and down might help work out exactly what it is and get the right treatment. As you said, they arent bothering him so he’s not in pain at all so get some rest.

Hi there Vally!
thanks for your support– I am just super sensitive and am afraid I am letting an infection sit or something. Do you know if staph would drain and then refill like this?
I also wanted to ask — I’ve seen on some websites that milk thistle should only be given for 1-3 weeks and then discontinued for a little, then started again. Too much can actually stress out the liver? For those who give milk thistle, do you alternate like that or just keep giving? Steve’s on week 3 so I was just wondering.
Thanks all!
Hi Hope
If these mouth sores keep coming back, please get a swab taken to put your mind at rest. It could be that he is not healing very well with the drugs after the area has been made red & sore BUT this could be an anaerobic infection, staph or even a fungal infection & a culture would give you the answer. We all worry about everything, so don’t feel bad about being concerned – far better to get things checked out if you are in doubt. I don’t care that my vets probably think I’m a paranoid idiot!
Regarding the milk thistle, I continued it the whole time Worzel was on the medications (many months) & my personal opinion is that it is far less hard on the liver than these horrible but necessary drugs are! Good quality organic milk thistle is the best idea too.
Take care – cuddles to Steve & Jeffrey too

Hey sheena!
thank you your advice! I went into the internists office today to get more of Steve’s lovenox drawn up into syringes. I have to get it from my pharmacy and they draw it up into individual doses for me. I showed a different tech the photos from Saturday –> yesterday afternoon –> last night –> this afternoon and she immediately went to show his internist. They were big and full last night and this AM and emptied again this afternoon. It’s so odd. She came back and said he thinks it’s not an infection but trauma (??) but still wants to see him tomorrow first thing. The other vet I had shown was his general vet — I don’t know if I explained that clearly. I had gotten a call from a tech at the specialist vets office and she said he didn’t feel the need to see him.. Hence I took him to his regular vet. Well obviously this one does as well! And I’m glad! I’ll feel much better when all is actually looked at by his specialist. And I’m definitely going to get a swab done also.

Thank you also for your help with the milk thistle! I’ll keep him on it as well — we use the Herb Pharm one as recommended. He really hasn’t had any GI problems with it (knock on wood) so good deal.
Thanks again and love to the kids!
