- Hello – after a long time
Greetings to everyone here; it is a very long time since I posted on this site. After Honey died, it was all so painful, and I found it quite difficult to keep on reading stories of this vile disease.
After she died, we got Shona – but poor Shona died a few months later (I think she was poisoned after getting into a neighbouring farmer’s field….. ). We then got retired greyhound Bella – who takes after Honey in loving nothing better than zooming around. Although she recently had a mild stroke, she is otherwise fine. And the December before last we volunteered for a few days at the Soi Dog Foundation rescue centre in Thailand….. before we went my vet looked at me and asked: “how many suitcases are you taking?”. And of course we did fall in love with someone there – a young and playful pup called I Nam, who travelled to England the following May. And we still have Honey’s pal, Dora, who is an old lady now – but still perfectly capable of running about.
I hope everyone here is well – and your lovely dogs!

Lynda!!! It’s great to hear from you. I Nam is one very lucky girl to be included in her new family? I’ll bet the 5 month wait was endless.
I lost Bingo in January to a cancer and I miss my very special boy so much.
In March I adopted a monster called Saba. A Cattle-X. She’s 3 years old. I’m still not used to her size really. I’ve never had such a big dog. She is still a bit reactive to other dogs, but has come a long way. She’s very affectionate to dad and me, a little too protective of us both, and the pound said “she doesn’t shed much”. Well, yeah, I fell for that.
Lots of love,
Vally
Ohhh! I am so sorry to hear about Bingo; you must miss him. But happy to hear about Saba! Welcome, Saba!
Yes, I Nam is a character; they all get on fine….. I am uploading a pic of Bella and I Nam. This was just after Bella came home from the hospital. I like to think I Nam is making sure she is OK
love,
Lynda
Hi Lynda!
I am thrilled to bits you have adopted I Nam – I joined Soi Dogs because you put me onto the plight of those poor souls & I’m not at all surprised you had to bring a pup back. The new addition looks totally at home already! Happy news. Bella is amazing too & glad Dora is doing fine.
We lost Worzel last month – he was at least 16 & his back end finally gave out. Miss him & Ollie (lost him to prostate cancer last year) like crazy. House is horribly empty.
Less of that – more good news from you has cheered me up no end. That & the wonderful Miss Saba – makes the world a better place. Yes, this disease we shouldn’t ever experience changes us all & I completely understand why you kept away. Sooooo nice to hear from you!

Lynda you are psychic!
We have been looking for a couple of needy greyhound types (so maligned these breeds) & are hoping to be parents again in the New Year!
For some stupid reason we thought a break would do us good – worst mistake EVER as this house is not a home without a rescue pup or two. Our grief has been tenfold & we aim to remedy that soon.
We are hoping to adopt 2 greyhounds – promise to keep you posted. Cross everything for us, please.
Tell us about I Nam – how are things going? We would love to hear the latest!
☺ love Sheena xxxxx
Sheena – that is very good news! I really hope to hear about them soon – and yes, greyhounds are wonderful and so neglected….
A break???? A good idea???? I can’t imagine how you have kept going without canine pals about the house. I am sure I would have been totally in a mess by now!
I Nam is cheeky! At the weekend, she played the “you can’t catch me” game at the end of a walk. I tried pretending I was driving off and leaving her, but it didn’t work. After about 20 such attempts she was still running rings around me (and the car). I finally cheated: I got the other two back out of the car and pretended we were going out again…. then I could get her!
I am so glad you joined Soi Dogs. We were SOOO impressed by the place when we went there – cleanest kennels I have ever seen! And the support network is amazing. Worth a visit if you are ever anywhere near Thailand!
Do keep me posted about your new arrivals when you get them
Love
Lynda

PS The more I read about this horrible disease, IMHA, the more I wonder if that was also what killed Shona…… she had been revaccinated three weeks before getting encephalitis. I can’t help but wonder if it was that and not my theory that she had got into something. Needless to say I am very cautious about overvaccinating now…. after her and Honey….
