Hi Jen
Keep an eye just in case on the seizure front (remember they are rare) with the Baytril – dogs & avocado don’t get on – it is not good for them at all, so a message to your young Maggie – don’t go stealing that guacamole again! My Worzel is a terrible thief too. Sheena & avocados don’t get on either – give me terrible tummy ache & … well you don’t want to hear that bit.
Sorry you’ve lost you post – it happens to me now & again. How are Maggie’s ears doing? And her balance? And her palsy? I hope you are seeing an improvement now. It is always a pleasure to help you with anything we can, Jen.
Sending love & hugs

What I was saying in my deleted post was Thank you Sheena for pointing out how to administer the baytril, I was incorrectly giving it to her close to stomach protector and it did not seem to be working well. After your post, I corrected the dosing and she has shown improvement with her balance and the palsy. She still has palsy on both sides but she can eat now and is not drooling all over the place. Her balance is still off when she jumps from couch or goes out the back steps but not nearly as bad as before.
Thank you Linda and Mary for checking in on Maggie. Linda, is the lubricating ointment a prescription or OTC and what brand? I have been using OTC eye drops many times a day (except when I’m at work). Her eyes seem ok, not as red and irritated as before. I hope no permanent damage is done. If you happen to find out what type of antibiotic Sadie was prescribed please do let me know.
I hope all your babies are feeling well!
Much love and hugs!

Hi Jen
This is the BEST news – I am so happy there is a definite improvement & the antibiotics are making her feel better now – what a relief for you. You have made my evening – that balance problem will slowly come back to normal – that in itself will make Maggie a much happier girl. I hope the palsy will also improve even more with the treatment. You are doing such a brilliant & conscientious job with her – I don’t know how you keep up with it all when you have young children to look after & a very busy life!
Love Sheena & the boys xxxx
PS they are both on the bed, waiting impatiently for bedtime treats – this is their favourite fun & cuddle time. I wonder why our bed is always full of crumbs & dog hairs?
It’s funny isn’t it. I used to feed Maggie ice cubes in bed during the summer months when it’s unbearably hot. So I know the feeling of dog treAts in bed. Thanks for the kind words, I wish there was more I could do! I’m blessed to still have her here with me.
I just wish she didn’t have to deal with all these other things as well. They are very tough though!

Oh goodness Jen – somehow o missed your question about the eye ointment. SO sorry! It’s Puralube Vet Ointment. Although, the first tube of this came from the vet (at THREE times the cost, of course. Then I found it on Amazon for much less:
I actually bought the three pack. I put it in twice a day, three times if she was not blinking at all. Dogs have an inner lid that you will see when Maggie is sleeping (very pink, but still there is a portion of the ‘eyeball’ showing). It really freaked me out the first time I saw it. But, it’s a safty measure for our pups and with the palsey – glad for that.
I just now put it in Sadie’s eyes. She still has the palsey in her right eye (comes and goes), but also the pollen gets to her. So I put it in both eyes. She said thank you.
