Hi Sara
Don’t you DARE blame yourself – it’s more likely she’s licked her bottie & bits, rather than you contaminating her – the two “areas” in question are very close together too. I am the only one allowed to blame myself for everything – full stop.
You certainly have good company with Karyn – the six billion dollar dogs for sure. And worth every penny.
Great reticulocyte numbers again – looking very good once more – celebrate the good things – this is GOOD!
I hope the vets will find out soon which antibiotic will kill the form of E Coli Flossie has – keep us posted!
It sounds like she doesn’t need the trolley any more – I love hearing she’s so much more energetic & happy – & a bit naughty – yaaaayyyyy!

Hi Ladies .. I am so sorry it’s been so long since I gave any updates on Flossie .. boy has it been a long month. Been taking care of her and tried finding work while we are here waiting in hotel on Flossie to get better to help with finances.
Anyhow….last I wrote Flossie has a UTI ..(E. Coli) and they were trying to find an antibiotic they felt comfortable using because in the culture it was just about resistant to everything. They ended up sending me home with Simlicef which was the safest antibiotic that showed it wasn’t resistant too. Anyhow within 24 hours of giving it to her , her mouth and nose started swelling and breathing through her nose was hard.. of course they immediately took her off as she was allergic to it and we now know that Flossie is allergic to Penicillin’s since that was a 4th gen pen. They did another culture to see if any other antibiotics would work and the few that would were so strong and had such bad side effects , our vet just didn’t feel it was safe for Flossie to have. Because she wasn’t having trouble peeing any longer ..and showing no outward signs of the UTI .. we ended up putting her on 250 mg of D’mannose and 250mg of Cranberry Powder twice a day. In hopes that that would keep the E.coli from attaching to the bladder walls. But the Dr. was still concerned about it spreading systemically and turning into Sepsis because her immune system was being supressed.
So we collectively made the decision to start reducing Her meds . We starte with the Prednisone to allow her immune system to kick in some in hopes that would kick the UTI ..and with all hope her body wouldn’t have a relapse. Then after we reached the 10 Mg of Pred .. we cut her Mycophenolate from 250 mg in the a.m. and 125mg. at night .. just to the 250mg . 1 a day.. we did that for 7 days then reduced that again to every other day … Well we are now down to 10 mg of pred Once a day and the 250 mg of Myco every other day. No relapse. Her Hematocrete is up to 35 .. and she is just doing amazing. The Dr.s are so happy with her progress.
We are waiting on a call today with #’s from her blood test yesterday … to see how she’s doing still .. Her gums are beautiful dark pink/red as well as her tongue. Her paws are nice and pink again as well as her belly.
She’s started back to sleeping in bed with me, and she’s now sleeping between 7 and 8 hours which is normal for her as well as many other things have kicked in. So right now we are on the upswing.
Thanks so much for all your help and guidance ..you gave me hope and gave me strength to be courageous and work on the behalf of Flossie with the Vet !!!!!! If I can be of any help to anyone I’m here and willing. I know we are not through this ..but If I can give encouragement to others going through it .. I’m here.
I’ll continue over time to post updates ..
Blessings
Sara
This is wonderful to read Sara. I’m thrilled Flossie is doing so well. Good luck on your next results.
Sara, your encouragement and help to others would always be welcome. That’s where we all came from. I’m certain everybody who’s dog receives this diagnosis is totally floored. We all were. To just be there and say I’ve been there, I know, helps others.

Hiya Sara!
This is fantastic to hear – Flossie is a superstar for sure – and so are you for getting her such wonderful care.
As Vally says, it would be so lovely if you could stay around & when you have the time, just to say a few words, especially for the new folks. We all remember the disbelief & confusion we felt, then the massive support we have all received from everyone who helps out on here. Just to know you are not the only person in the world whose dog has been diagnosed made a big difference to me. That’s why I’m still here! I couldn’t bear to think of anyone else feeling so alone. Three years on & I still worry about everything – it’s nice to share your worries with others who genuinely understand why this disease has turned me (and probably all of us) paranoid & a bit crazy!
Hoping for great results again next time

Hi Girls … Sorry again it’s taken so long to get back in here with news and I need to read and comment on some of the new people coming for help which I will do in the next week.
Flossies HRT made it up to 43 as of 15 days ago. As of Monday of last week July 4th she cut her prednisone to 5 mg every other day. She’s doing great still.
In the meantime she gave us the go ahead to get on the road and get moved .. so we left on June 28th and we were on the road for 4 days and made it to our new destination for home. We have a new vet in place we see this coming Tuesday who will be working with our vet that has helped Flossie all along. I’m a bit nervous about the new vet .. you know anytime anything is new ..but we shall see I have a few others lined up if I’m not happy with this one.
Flossie made the trip beautifully. She had anxiety but we kept her as calm as possible and once we got settled into our new long term stay until we get a house purchased she has been just fine.
The UTI hasn’t seemed to be a problem I kept her on the cranberry and d’mannose up until yesterday and have taken away the cranberry for a bit.
She’s also still on 100mg of Atopica per day. and then her natural things.. Sam-E, Milk Thistle, Folic Acid, Probiotic, etc.
She’s been battling yeast around her mouth and potty area. I have been using cocunut Oil along with antibiotic cream around the potty area and that is clearing that area up. Her mouth area is a bit trickier been putting coconut oil on it ..but not seeing as quick a result as the potty area but I think it’s because she licks it .. eats and drinks and it gets wet .. etc. So still working at that.
Other than that she’s Feisty .. Playful and likes to lounge in between alot and sleep long hours at night LOL !
So Tuesday they will do another CBC and we’ll see how she’s done with the move.
Sara, I’m thrilled to read you’ve managed to get going an d I hope you settle in at the new place, even though it’s a temp.
Do what I do, whenever I meet a new vet or have to deal with something, I say has Dr Phil warned you I’m nuts and totally paranoid and over the top?
Vally & Bingo (who does his best to keep me nuts…..)
