O.k. besides the ? regarding water above I have one more.
Dr. had mentioned decreasing prendisone last week ..but nothing since. We have an appt. tomorrow for PCV .. if that comes up again I kind of want to be prepared for it.
Right now Flossie is on 20 mg a.m. and 30mg p.m. is this good to stick with until we start seeing a good rise in the PCV or is this considered high and reducing is o.k. ?
Hey Sara.
I would say definitely the melatonin that’s making her sleep, that’s one of the uses of the drug.
Watch your fingers.
The prednisone, absolutely no reductions yet. She needs to get into normal ranges of mid 30s and stay there for a little while before starting to reduce the prednisone. The dosage is correct for her weight. See this:

Hi Sara,
We give Louis a bath every other day now, just to deal with the ring worm and to be honest he was never a massive fan of a bath, but it does seem to perk up once he’s had a bath, so as long as it doesn’t stress Flossie out she might feel a bit better in herself.
We were the same with Louis when he was first on his pred, he drank gallons of water and we were up every couple of hours for a wee. Then when he decided to sleep through the night I was a wreck! We are never happy hahaha.
You really are doing a brilliant job under difficult circumstances, I hope your Dad is feeling better.
I would be very very wary about reducing her pred, like Vally said don’t even let them think about it until she is in her mid 30’s, that’s my next worry with Louis, as much as I want him off the pred I am scared stiff about starting that reduction. But like everything else we will deal with it when it comes.
Big hug for Flossie xxxx
Love Karyn and Louis
Oh Karyn ..
Thanks for the bathing info. My mom keeps saying she smells …and is just dirty.. and would it hurt to give her a bath …and I keep telling her to wait .. We go on for her PCV tomorrow ..I think I’ll wait for that and if it’s good then we’ll go for it.
Thanks for the second thoughts on the Pred .. this is where it will get tricky and I’ll have to be firm about keeping her on .. or I’ll be back in the same boat as last week figuring out where to go to get a vet to go along with the program. You wouldn’t happen to know ..if I call Dr.Dodds .. does she have vets she can refer you to that she works with ?
Oh gosh I bet you are nervous getting to the point of reducing Louis’s Pred. So how many weeks/months total has it been since he was first diagnosed and put on Pred ?
And thanks for remembering my dad .. he went for his blood draw today ..so we should have results late this week early next to see if he is staying or dropping.
Hugs to you and Louis too !
Sara, I know Dr Dodds is in France at the moment. You could possibly ring Hemopet and ask about vets they deal with near you. Hemopet’s number is (714) 891-2022. Good idea actually, it may save you a lot or running or phoning around and it may be good to have a name on hand.
Bingo has never liked baths, he looks pathetic and shivers, no matter that the water is warm. He does it on purpose to make me feel bad. So I delay it for months and months. One time it was a really nice day, we’d been for a check up a few days before and he was good, so into the tub. He started howling and crying. That was a new trick, but it worked as I got him out so fast he still had shampoo on him. He then paid me back by getting some gastro thing a few days later and I ended up taking him back to the hospital. Bingo said he probably got it in the tub.
He’s left me terrified of bathing him. I now don’t wash him in the tub. I get a bucket of warm water ready, with a jug to pour over him. Dad holds him on the leash outside and it’s the quickest wash you can image. Now heading towards winter though, he can stay stinky and dirty for a few months.
Vally & stinkpot.
Ah Vally and Stinkpot … now that’s pure puppy love !!!
Flossie is pretty good about bath’s .. … I put her in and she just sit’s and lets you pour water over her and suds her up ..she even will stand on the side of the tub and stick her back legs out one a time so you can clean her back side.
Thanks for the hemopet # .. I think I will call down there tomorrow just to be prepared.
I ended up having to take Flossie in to Vet yesterday instead of today ( I got worried about her breathing she ended up being fine it was just her crazy mom being paranoid) so they did a PCV while she was there and she was holding at 20% since the transfusion on Friday. She goes tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. for another PCV .. she’s starting to do things she used to do before getting sick. She’s trying to play with her stuffed bunny. This morning she jumped off my bed and tried to jump on my mom’s which is a normal morning habit for her since we have been in hotel.. and she quit 2-1/2 wks ago when she got sick …I want to get excited but I’m being cautious..
The only other noted change is her poop went from being fairly solid to soft .. I’m thinking the Atopica. For the first time since being sick she went to the frig today and grunted .. we keep her yogurt and pumpkin there .. we gave her pumpkin which she wouldn’t eat the last 2-1/2 wks today she devoured it so hopefully that will help firm up the poops.
