Oh gosh thank you so much for the cyclosporine info. I had no idea it was best given without food .. also had no idea it would interact with other drugs when given together.. etc. O.k. Will I need to change the time I’m giving it to her so it’s away from her other meds.
Right now the Dr. started her on low dose .. 100mg per 24 hours .. I know initially that was why she didn’t want to use it ..because she said there was so much more potential for side effects and liver damage. Last night they gave her a dose of 200mg.. to start her. No one reported to us that she has any bad reactions .. or that they gave with food.. I’m guessing they didn’t since they transfused her and they don’t usually feed right before or during transfusing that I am aware of.
We will sure keep an eye on her .. I’m pretty vigilant ..actually being in our current living situation I can see is a blessing right now. Because I can be with her 24 hours a day.
She has some pretty nasty bruising on her front leg where they must have had her lines inserted for the transfusion. She didn’t have that the first 2 times .. I am guess that must be a side affect ..or someone inexperienced in inserting the line .. I know my dad has had some nurses that have just massacred him some have the touch and others don’t !
As far as diet .. we are still doing Chicken Breast, Rice .. and sometimes mashed potatoes..(plain potato flakes and water) Then she keeps wanting her dog food which is ACANA Wild Praire …it’s made to a high standard and is for Human Comsumption too .. http://acana.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/ACA-DOG-WEB-PDF-2014-WP-Lo1.pdf
I’ve been trying to let her eat small meals around the times I give her meds since all the ones up to now can be given with food.. my thinking that it helps not just giving her all these meds on an empty stomach.
She told us we could give 10mg. of pepcid twice daily.. and that it could be given with her meds … what are your thoughts ?
We go back for PCV monday
Sara, Pepcid mustn’t be given with other meds, but it shouldn’t really be given with food either as it reduces it’s effectiveness.
Send me a list of all the meds and times you’re doing and I’ll get a chart back to you.
Yes medicine side effects information should also not be read within at least 1 hour of food or other meds.
Love Vally

Hi Sara
Oh my goodness you are doing an amazing job, you must be knackered!
Louis went onto cyclosproine and he did stablise for a while, but it did bring him out in skin lesions, but he also had ring worm, you can imagine I was devestated I thought that was due to poor heigne but it wasn’t, anyway our vet gave us a spray to use on his sores, it was amazing it seemed to clear them up really quickly, it forms like a second skin, it called
“Vetericyn VF wound and skin care hydro gel” I think it’s a rareish side affect.
I hear so much of myself in your posts, if you are not getting the care you think is right then you will go for another opinon, just like we did xx I’m so proud of you.
But please make sure you look after yourself as well, Flossie needs a healthy Mum to fight her corner.
A PCV of 20% is a really great level to be at, it gives you the time you need for the cyclosproine to start working. As I’ve said before please don’t be afraid of transfusions Louis has had 6 in total, and I honestly believe if it wasn’t for them he wouldn’t be here, being naughty he is currently on the naughty step hahaha.
I’m constantly amazed at the strength our dogs have to stay with us, Flossie is one he’ll of a fighter but she’s learnt from her Mum – YOU xxx
Lots of love Karyn and Louis xxxx
Karxlee,
Oh my I would have thought the same thing about hygiene .. Right now Flossie has some bad mats just since being hospitalized under her front legs .. I am going to use the clippers this afternoon to remove them .. as I don’t want that to add to the chances of any sores starting on her body. She’s so dirty .. well to me ..I usually bathe her every 2 to 3 weeks .. but I didn’t know if that would be a bad thing to do considering she’s ill ??? Any thoughts ? I was worried it would be too much stress on her body..
Hey girls ..
So Flossie slept through the night last night. From 11:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. .. No I didn’t sleep I was up on the hour checking her…LOL ! I was worried because normally she gets up to drink water .. so at 2:30a.m. I brought the water to her and she did drink some ..but nothing like she was this last week (downing the whole bowl). So at 3:30 a.m. I started freaking that she hadn’t gone pee and worrying she was holding it too long and going to end up with a UTI .. so I tried to ply her with a treat to get up ( that usually works) and she just wouldn’t get up .. and after trying a few more times to move her she decided I had made her angry and tried snapping my fingers off … (that’s not out of character for her when she doesn’t want to do something) So alas I gave in and laid back down .. at 6:30 she popped her head up wide awake and was ready to go out. Flooded the ground so much so her paws were covered and I had to clean her up and moved her bowels too ..and was just chipper, bright and happy, Anyhow … she is drinking water .. but it is far decreased compared to what it was 3 days ago and prior.. is this normal for them to go from drinking massive amounts of water 2 bowls at a time .. to drinking 1/3 to 1/2 the bowl .. and not as frequently ?
I wondered if the good sleep is the melatonin. She just started that ( Friday Night and then Yesterday) .. and this morning after having it again she is having a good ole’ long sleep just snoring away over on the floor. This good sleep just means she’s not awake and getting up to drink or pee as much .. is this o.k.
Paranoid MOM … LOL !
