Carol, what is the time that you give the different drugs and I’ll put a chart together for you. Also some drugs don’t go together, so, for my sanity, if you could list those times that would be good. Eg, the cyclosporine should not be given within 2 hours of other drugs or food.

I’m also just a tad paranoid about all things now :)

Carol – Eddy is magnificent! He is so handsome & has the sweetest, cheeky face – no wonder you love him to bits. Any news on tests? Hope he’s feeling more perky now
Love Sheena xxxxx
Hello ~ Thank you for the compliments on my good looking boy! I shared them with him and it made his day! :) I do love him to bits! I have had Eddy since he was about an hour old, he is truly like one of my human children!
Vally ~ I didn’t know that Cyclosporine couldn’t be given within 2 hours of other drugs until I read it on this site! The only thing we were told was to give him the Pepcid and Prilosec an hour before he had the cyclosporine. I’m so thankful for any information and would really appreciate a chart! Here is how I have been giving him his medications:
6:00am – 1 Pepcid
7:00am – 10mg Prednisone
125mg Mycophenolate
100mg Cyclosporine
*7.5mg Mirtazapine
*2.5mg Lomotil
6:00pm – 1 Pepcid
1 Prilosec
7:00pm – 10mg Prednisone
125mg Mycophenolate
100 Cyclosporine
425mg Denamarin
*These were every other day but this week, after the Cyclosporine was increased, it is every day for the time being.
When Eddy was first diagnosed, my husband and I were traveling on the east coast so we cut our trip short and came home to take care of Eddy. A few days after we got home my appendix ruptured, I had surgery and ended up with a collapsed lung. I was hospitalized for a week. I feel like I’m just now catching my stride and able to take over from my family, Eddy’s care. I really appreciate any and all help in caring for him!!
Sheena ~ I had a nice talk with his local vet yesterday! Eddy’s appointment is now Monday. He will have a complete blood panel done as well as a thyroid test. His doctor wasn’t too sure about adding the thyroxine but I was persistent. We came to an agreement that the thyroid test would be done so that there is a baseline. Eddy will be given the Thyroxine and then in one month another thyroid test will be done. I think he is as interested as I am to see the results! Eddy’s local vet has been a good family friend for close to 25 years so he is usually pretty objective and listens with his heart to my concerns not only for Eddy, but for all of my furry family. I felt very good about our conversation yesterday!
Eddy is feeling better today! I think it always helps when it’s the weekend and everyone is home to visit and cuddle with him!
I can’t thank you all enough for the information and encouragement! Not only is this a scary diagnosis, it can be a lonely one too. I’m so glad you are all here for those of us who are just starting to navigate through this illness.
Blessings,
Carol
Okay, I’m going to suggest the following times. Let me know if any of this is impossible and we’ll keep fiddling:
5am – Thyroxine.
6am – Pepcid
8am (with food) Prednisone, Mycophenolate, Mirtazapine and Lomotil
10am – Cyclosporine
2pm – Denamarin (this also should not be with food)
5pm – Thyroxine
6pm – Pepcid
8pm (with food) Prilosec, prednisone, mycophenolate
10pm – Cyclosprine
If you notice giving the cyclosporine without food upsets his tummy, you can give it with a little bit of food.
Good on you, AND your vet, for accepting the treatment with thyroxine. We’ve just seen magic happen with this.
Now I’ve also slotted in the thyroxine, that should be given 1 hour before food or 2 hours after, just in case you thought you had enough hours in your day.
Does this look okay to everyone?
Love Vally & Bingo (who’s used to getting tablets shoved in while he’s asleep – then again the tablet shover is half asleep too).
Hi Carol
Oh, that’s great to hear Eddy’s feeling a bit better – don’t they like to worry us? Vally has done a great job with the drug chart – how MEAN getting you up at 5am though!
Well done you for getting the thyroxine. It is worth doing the Thyroid Panel test just in case Eddy is hypothyroid. But the thyroxine should be given regardless – hoping it will give him the boost he needs. Your vet sounds really nice & I am so happy you have someone who listens to your concerns – it’s so much easier when you have a supporting, kind vet.
As you say, this is such a frightening disease for us all, especially at the diagnosis – none of us will ever be the same again after going through this. That is exactly why we are here – every single one of us has been stressed, worried & desperate for help. The feeling of isolation is something I had at the beginning too, until I found this lovely group of people. My vets had never come across a case like Worzel, which really makes you feel alone. But you are NOT alone now – we will always try our best to support you. There is so much to learn or “get your head around” when you are told your dog has this disease because it is so rare. I hope we have helped with that too!
I forgot to mention something – we have been chatting about B12 & B Vitamins recently. Some of our dogs have need B12 or B Vit injections as their levels can be low – again, a blood test will show if Eddy needs those. Sometimes, they don’t have enough to make blood cells properly, so maybe you could chat about this with your vet. Another little bit of help to boost red cell production if Eddy needs it. High levels of B12 are NOT toxic, but other B vitamins are dangerous if they get too high, so again worth checking. The Denamarin is wonderful stuff & will help Eddy too.
You are doing a fantastic job, Carol. I can feel the love that you have for Eddy through your lovely messages. Those cuddles & kisses are guaranteed to make him feel better! Worzel is very clingy now, because I was always beside him, cuddling him, & staying positive in front of him when he was ill. They feed from our emotions & Eddy knows you are getting him the best help possible.
Love & hugs – and a cuddle & kiss for Mr Handsome Eddy from me

Hi Vally and Sheena!
Thank you for the dosage times, Vally! We started today! Yes, the Mirtazapine is 1/2 tablet of a 15 mg tablet. The Mycophenolate is a 125mg capsule. Everything else is a capsule or tablet.
Eddy has had a good day of sucking socks and hand towels, resting and barking at the wind!
We both thank you for everything and Eddy says thank you for the cuddle and kiss, Sheena!
Blessings, Carol and Eddy
