Hiya, Louis has been back to our local vets for his dressing to be changed on his tail and to check everything is healing well.
I’m super happy to say it is healing well, its not oozed or bled and our local vet was really impressed with how well it’s healing, he also checked his gums and said they are the best he’s seen them for months, he actually said they look almost normal!!! – yes I did a little dance.
Stefano has written to our local vet and said this his been the most complex case he has every dealt with but he is cautionaly optimistic that Louis will make a good recovery. I know it’s all if’s and but’s – but I’m grabbing hold of it.
Louis is bursting with energy and actually jumped out of the car tonight when we took his on the field, he’s not done that for months.
All good signs :)
Karyn, I’m so happy for you – I am grinning, & we are all doing happy dances too. When is next PCV check? He HAS to have increased to be acting like this – also if his gums are looking better, he must be better, unless he’s sneaked into your make-up bag & chewed on some pink lip sticks!!!!!!
Love hugs & good luck for that next PCV test.

Thanks Ladies !!
Louis’s next with Stefano is on the 25th, he said if we want to get his PCV checked then our local vet can send a sample off, but we are going to wait, mainly because it costs £80 at our local vet and only £10 when Stefano does it. We need to mange our money and make sure we have enough to cover his meds, rather than doing PCV, my hubby said if his energy levels drop then we will get one done, which to be fair is a sensible approach.
The reason we have manage our money better is because Olga (our other dobie) is also being referred to Rutland, but not for AIHA so don’t worry. She had her knee rebuilt there 2 years ago but it looks like it’s failed!
So we have managed to get an appointment for both of them on the same day, saves the travelling.
She was insured but when we came to re-new they added a caveat that they would not cover her leg that had the op… so once again insurance have screwed us.
Louis is being rather naughty and is pinching Olga’s tea when she’s not paying attention but I haven’t go the heart to tell him off, the memories of him not eating anything are still too new for me, but we are watching his weight carefully so he doesn’t have too much pressure on his heart.
So things here in Northwest are looking better for Louis xxxx
Ah Karen .. I have spent the week reading your entire journey with Louis .. and wow it’s been an amazingly roller coaster journey for you. My heart goes out to you. I’m glad to hear Louis is improving sorry to hear about his tail.. Flossie is the first dog I have had with a stubby tail and it’s just adorable .. Louis’s will too !
I hear you on the money end of things. My Dad asked last night so how much are you at right now .. and I said I hadn’t really sat down and added it up but that I had a pretty good idea we were over 10,000 right now. Thank God I spent the last 6 years doing nothing but work and save for retirement . So I have a nest egg to work off of. If not .. I don’t honestly know what we would have done. I would think I would have chosen to go into CC debt and pay off over time. My Golden passed from cancer and wow this far exceeds the cost of caring for her in the end.
I saw about Olga and Insurance .. of course now I have been looking at pet insurance in consideration that we were thinking of getting a 2nd dog before Flossie became ill .. well I’m not sure how worth it, it is. There are so many disclaimers of things they don’t cover especially if the illness is breed related etc. that really what’s the point in the end ? Maybe I’m reading it all wrong .. not sure ?
Praying for you and your husband and Louis and Olga … there’s a special place for Animal Lovers in heaven I have to believe … we were called on to care for the animals and we are all doing our part in that !
Hugs to you all from Sara and Flossie !
Aww thank you Sara for your kind words. Yes you are right about Olga because its her same leg when we went to renew last time they said she would not be covered for it… they are quick to take your money but very reluctant to give it you back!
We are around the £13k mark now with Louis, that includes most of his meds, it has almost broke us, but we pledged to take care of Louis when we adopted him, and that’s exactly what we intend to do. Don’t get me wrong there have been times when we have almost had to call it a day, but Louis’s big teddy bear eyes just get us every time.
We are hoping he is starting to go into a decent remission, but I think like everyone else on here, we will always be scared of every little change in him, and will no doubt be watching him like a hawk.
Louis blog http://louismynewlife.blogspot.co.uk/ has helped us remember when and where we had things done like procedures, and PCV levels, it also let me vent a lot in a funny way.
I cannot wait to see what his PCV level is :)
love Karyn and Louis x
Hi Karyn
Remembered it was Louis’ check-up tomorrow – wishing you all the luck in the world! How’s he doing?
Loads of love & hugs

Hi Sheena,
Yes Louis is at Rutland today at 16:30 we think the billy ruben is back because his poop is looking a bit yellow again and has mucus in it :( his gums are looking pale again as well, and to add to matters he has also got a benign tumour called histiocytoma on his leg. Stefano is looking it today as well.
Louis’s energy levels are still up, he is still enjoying his walks and little runs, so we are really confused.
To add to our vet bills Olga is also going to Rutland today as well, we think the op she had on her knee 2 years ago is failed. I feels like or bad is never ending :(
I’ll let you know how we get on later xxx
Love Karyn
