Hi Karyn
Sorry this is so rotten for you – the blood test is very basic (passing to moderators) but please forward to Dr Dodds immediately.
You must be really fed up when you thought things were going much better-there is something going on in the background with Louis that we need to find. But he’s not at risk as such, so please don’t get too down as he’s OK for now.
So happy his tail op went OK – I hope they are checking diabetes, kidney function etc? There has to be something that is holding him back & we need to find out what it is.
Louis is one helluva dog – he’ll get through this thanks to amazing parents!
Love, hugs, reassuring thoughts

Oh what a bad dog!!! I’m glad he likes his tail short but the next worry is what is he going to eat next? Tell Olga she had better watch it. I’m sure he’ll tell her some story to convince her she needs a tail trim too.
Could the blood loss from the tail trimming done at home have caused a drop in the PCV?

Hi everyone, I sent Dr Dodds Louis blood results and she gave us some advise on them, it does appear Louis’s PCV had dropped to 22% which of course I’m devestated about, but Louis is looking well, and he seems to have more energy than last time he was at this level.
He’s leaving what’s left of his tail alone, and he is constantly starving, but that’s the pred, he’s put loads of weight on so we are watching his food intake, because we don’t want to let him get fat because we don’t want him to put extra pressure on his heart.
We will be going to see Stefano next week, I’ve got to send him an update on Monday when Louis goes back to our local vet for a check up on his tail.
Positives – all of his sores have healed well, he only has one tiny sore left under his pad on his paw.
He seems to have a lot more energy.
He is eating and drinking well.
He seems happy.
I’m focusing on these for now ☺
Love Karyn
Hiya Karyn
Oh YES! Concentrate on the positives for sure. I personally think if they are acting happy, hungry & energetic, they are doing just fine. Great to hear those sores are improving & have nearly healed. The drop in PCV wasn’t drastic, so no point worrying if he’s feeling OK. I think their demeanour is the true indicator of how they are doing!
Good luck with the next tests – let us know as soon as you hear anything – we’re rooting for you – Worzel, Ollie & myself are crossing paws, hands, feet, you name it!

Hi Everyone, well we seem to have on cheeky full of energy Dobie on our hands, Louis has been full of beans today and really energetic, his gums are looking lovely and pink, obviously not fully pink, but the pinkest I have seen them since he became ill.
I wish they had home PCV kits because I think he is well above 22%, hopefully we will be seeing Stefano this week so will get a sneaky PCV check done.
He’s had no ill affect since having his op to have his tail removed, if anything he seems more lively, I even caught him with his paws on the kitchen side today, he’s not done that for years!
Anyway more positives to concentrate on :)
Love Karyn and Louis.
Yaaaayyyyy! Louis you superhero!
Karyn it wouldn’t be the first time a blood test was inaccurate – loads of things can go wrong from miss-handling samples, to automatic analysers miss-counting – I wouldn’t be surprised if something has gone “wrong” with the sample or the machine has counted immature red cells (they are BIG) as wbcs or something like that.
Pink is PINK! We love pink gums. If he is acting like this, he has to be improving. Crossing all our bits for the next test.
You’re doing great!

Hi Karyn. Great to hear Louis is acting feisty. That’s always a good sign. And ravenous, they do become on the prednisone. Sadie will grab food right out of your hand if left at her height! So embarrassing – naughty girl.
You are awesome fur parents. Louis, you listen to your mommy and daddy, sweet boy!
Love, Linda and Sadie
