Hi Karyn
I was just about to write a how’s Louis note – So pleased to hear he’s a happy, playful bunny! Who cares what they look like – not us – as long as they are getting better & better. You’ve made my day.
Did your vet ever hear back from Liverpool about what on earth the samples revealed from his paws? It is a puzzle indeed.
Your story is an inspiration to everyone – never give up maybe should be our motto???? It’s certainly yours!
Good luck & loads of good wishes for Friday
Love & hugs from me & the boys

Hi Karyn, so pleased for you and Louis! its a long road isn’t it, but so worth it, you have done such a great job, never giving up, hes such a lovely boy, good luck for Friday, love and hugs from Jill and Snoops xxxxx
Hi everyone, quick update Louis’s PCV has gone up 1% to 29% not as much as I had hoped but I guess it’s better than going down or staying the same, thats me being selfish and impatient.
Stefano has said he doesn’t need to see Louis every week unless we need him, so we have moved to fortnightly appointments, which is good I guess.
There is no lowering of his pred until he hits the 30’s so I guess I’ve not got that worry to think about yet.
I know this update sounds a bit depressing but I am happy and so grateful that I’m not writing bad news.
Love Karyn and Louis xxx
Hiya Karyn
This is not depressing at all! It’s absolutely fine. When they get over 25, the PCV increases become much smaller because the body is coping OK, so their reticulocyte production slows down. So it’s normal not so see big jumps from now on. Hoping for a nice steady rise though – nearly there Louis, you superhero!
If he gets stuck at 30 & can’t get moving, then you need to look at extra kick starts such as thyroxine – let’s worry about that IF it happens & not before.
Is Louis on denamarin, Vit B12 or anything? Sorry I can’t remember. I would suggest they are a good thing to add regardless. With the time he’s had haemolysing blood at a rate of knots, I bet he needs some blood building components! His stocks might be depleted & these are simple things you can try. Many of our dogs benefit from B MultiVit & B12 injections after such a traumatic time.
Please be very careful about pred lowering – I know Louis is a rather strange case (to say the least!), but we always recommend mid-thirties stability before starting slow reductions. Just take it nice & steady to be certain. No boat rocking!
Been thinking about you today – glad all is well
Love & hugs as always

Hi Karyn, thats still good news hun, im sure it can take a while to climb and you think what poor Louis has been through ! hes a super dog! We see our vet fornightly to have Snoopys blood level checked and weve been so lucky as there has been a steady rise, so Im wondering if you might see more of a jump when you start this to, love and hugs Jill & Snoops xxxxx ps I wouldn’t worry about the reducing of the meds yet as I think he needs to be at a stable level first and when eventually its ok to reduce very slowly and steady like Sheen says, I oked everything first with lovely Sheen before I did anything! and Snoopy is coming on lovely xxx
Hi Everyone,
I have no words to express how disappointed we are in Louis! He has been doing well, and has had his cone on when he’s been left for any period of time.
However yesterday when we came home he had somehow gotten to his tail and chewed 4in off – yes off – and then ate it!!! I swear to god the blood was everywhere, so today under the instruction of Stefano he went into our local vet and had the remainder took off, so he now looks like a proper Dobie!
I aslo managed to get a copy of his full blood results, I have sent a copy to Sheena to have a look, I’ll post them on here as well.
Other than this we are trying to work out his PVC level because looking at the chart it looks like he is 22% which is a huge drop from 29% 2 weeks ago :( I hope we are wrong.
The bloods were took before his op – we think! or hope!
Our local vet doesn’t have the testing equipment so they have to be sent off.
I’m looking for some good news in them if anyone can spot any :)
Love Karyn xx
