Hi everyone Louis is still at Rutland, although he ate yesterday hes still had dioarehha and is not eating again, Stefano is taking him off the mycophenolate because he believes the side effects of this drug are causing his issues with not eating. Louis PCV is 19% today which is great, he seems bright and everyone is making a fuss of him.
We are worried that last time Louis was taken off his immune surpresseants he crashed, but Stefano said the not eating his killing him so we have to do something, he is going to check his PCV first thing in the morning and will, monitor him closely overnight.
He should have the full blood tests back tomorrow as well, so he can see if something else is going on, once again I’ve asked for a copy of them.
I’ll update again as soon as we have any more news.

Hi Karyn
What a shame about the diarrhoea – mycophenolate does do this as we mentioned before – let’s hope he’ll settle down now.
PCV 19 – that’s nice & stable again – good stuff! I hope they are replacing the mycophenolate with another immuno-suppressant such as cyclosporine or azathioprine.
Thanks for letting us know how things are going – hope YOU are feeling better too.
Much love from us all
Sheena, Worzel & Ollie xxxxx
Hi Karyn, I’m also hoping they are adding another immuno-suppressant. The prednisone, alone, is unlikely to work to stop the destruction of red cells. Have they said the are going to add something?
Don’t worry about the liver !!! Every one of our dogs have had off the chart results. This is less of a problem than treating the disease. When the drugs are reduced, the liver responds. We have all used denosyl (or denamarin) to help the liver to cope.
I know you’ll ask, but I’m encouraging you again to do whatever you can to get hold of a copy of that test.
My best, Vally & Bingo
Hi Karyn, that’s great news Louis is stable again , I so hope he starts back eating again for you xxxx My dog Snoopy had to have Azathioprine added to the Prednisolone to start making him better as the Prednisolone on its own was not working, Snoopy is also having some milk thistle to help his liver cope , he is improving steadily now thankgod, it takes time for the drugs to work, and they do have side effects but with the help from the lovely ladies on here , Snoopy is improving. Im hopeing and praying for your lovely boy to improve , and hoping you are feeling well to , love and hugs Jill & Snoopy xxxx
Hi everyone, Louis is back home with us eating like a horse and really bright, his paws are looking well and are healing nicely.
His PCV is 18.5% which is OK however he still had a little bit of an upset tummy, we have more stomach protection and antibiotics for his skin.
The worry we have is he has been taken off all his immune suppressesants till Friday to try and get his eating back on track and his stomach in a better condition, this really really worries me because last time a vet did this he crashed and needed a blood transfusion, we have been told of we see him going downhill to take him straight back.
He has now been off them for 36 hours and he is still bright and hungry.
I’m sure he is sick of me being in his gums all the time but I’m not taking any chances.

Hi Karyn
Yaaaayyyyyyy! Glad he’s home & his PCV is holding nicely. Even better news that he’s a hungry boy.
Wishing you all the luck in the world on the pred only – he did respond at the beginning on a low dose, & he is now on a higher dose, so you never know. Plus eating means his tummy is not so sore & upset – good stuff, that sucralfate. But keep on “gumming” – that’s all you can do.
I, like you, am still convinced there is something underlying causing this & once that is treated, he will be OK.
Come on Louis – keep eating loads & making new blood cells – your Mum & Dad & everyone here want you better really soon.
Love Sheena, Worzel (just picked up some sucralfate tablets from the vet for him actually!) & Ollie xxxxx
Hi Karyn, so pleased to read Louis is home and eating for you again that’s great news! We all know about gumming don’t we? im constantly checking Snoopys gums, as hes slowly being weaned off the pred.Hes doing ok at mo , hope Louis continues to improve for you , give him a big cuddle from us, love Jill & Snoopy xxxx
